First of all I would like to say I am a huge fan of FTR and admire the work you do here.

Now, I play 10NL at pokerstars and overall I show solid profit but recently I have had a huge downswing of -11 buyins with some characterisitic situations reoccurring . I play mostly ABC TAGG poker and strictly follow guidelines given by harrington and renton concerning starting hands and bet sizes but too frequently i find myself in situations where I either win small pot with a bet on the flop or end up losing large pots from sets and weird two pairs since after preflop raise and a flop bet I am mostly pot commited on the turn and here is a typical example:

I tried to counterfeit such situations by buying in for 50BBs as advised by fnord and raising more aggresively preflop to kill implied odds (5BB +1bb for each limper) but I still end up in such situations too frequently.

So my question is, should I play overpairs and TPTKs differently? Raise even more preflop? Raise less and avoid larger pots with just pairs? Check turn for pot control and play passively if flop bet is smooth called?

Any help would be highly appreciated. I can't see what I am doing terribly wrong but loss of 110$ seems to much to be just variance at these stakes.

Buying in at 100 big blinds will solve your being comitted problem. IMO.

Thats right, I mostly buy for 50bb to ease my decisions. The thing I basically want to know is if I commit 25bb by the turn on TPTK or overpair (no obvious draws completed on the board) is paying the rest of your medium stack on turn or river (20-30bb) to a checkraise or a reraise against an unknown opponent a profitable choice in the long run? Just a rule of thumb please... Thx

i think you raised too much with AK hand preflop. In these low-stake games, the best way to destroy donks and fish is buy-in full. As played, his c/c, c/r line is pretty strong and you could muck your AK if you were full stacked here without commiting yourself.

in the posted hand against an unknown at 10NL I would put all of my chips in expecting him to have an A a lot of the time. The only thing to watch for here is the limp/call pf. This is a PP a lot of the time. but at 50BB deep, just put it in IMO.

Yea, your right, many have said it, but I think we should stop thinking on whole that the results matter when analyzing a hand. It actually may help others to learn not to use results in there own hands at the table when looking at previous hands. I also think it's good to see how villains act with certain hands for our own benefit in future hands played. Not everything we get out of a HH needs to be about the OP. Any information we can use at a later date is good.

Totally agree with this.
It could be especially helpfull for people like me at 5NL.
To see what people at higher levels do in certain situations,
and how they react to things.

Maybe posting the results afterwards is a good idea.
That way we get the best of both.

Like it or not, it does taint results. We should be able to look back and ignore the result but thats not always as easy as it sounds. Not posting results ensures that they dont influence us
