Default AJo in the BB. I hate this hand...

I'm rusty, just getting back into playing again. I don't like to raise this hand from EP. And I wasn't so keen on doing it here PF either... What do you do on the river? Villian hasn't done anything out of line in the 5 or 6 hands that I've been playing with him. We'll just label him as a typical $5NL donk for now.

    PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.05 BB (7 handed) Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

    SB ($4.80)
    Hero ($5)
    UTG ($3.36)
    MP1 ($5.83)
    MP2 ($1.88)
    CO ($3.17)
    Button ($3.52)

Preflop: Hero is BB with J, A.
UTG calls $0.05, MP1 calls $0.05, 3 folds, SB completes, Hero checks.

    Flop: ($0.20) 8, 7, A (4 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $0.2, UTG calls $0.20, MP1 folds, SB folds.

    Turn: ($0.60) 3 (2 players)
Hero bets $0.6, UTG calls $0.60.

    River: ($1.80) 6 (2 players)
Hero checks, UTG bets $1.15, Hero ...
    Hey knucklehead! Bonk!

    Thanks for the thoughtful insight.

I won't debate on the merits of raising this hand PF from EP. I see both the pro's and con's of it. That was not my question about this hand anyways. Even if this was raised PF, and the same action played to the river, what do you do then? I think that is the only real decision in this hand...

Well, flop and turn look good to me, and you gave villain crappy odds for the draw. Usually I call here I guess, assuming villain would have folded the draw on the turn. But then I used to get stung pretty badly with TP decent kicker hands in situations like this by making that (sometimes bad) assumption.

If it was raised preflop, the situation you're looking at and villain's range would be quite different. As played it's harder to put villain on a hand. But in both cases, I think the river check oop is bad.

I agree with a block bet on the river .8-1 is pretty good, it tells you if he raises you can fold, you might get value out of a mid pair, or a fold. As played I think I call, river bet is not to big, and your ahead some of the time.

as played you would have to be ahead like >30% of the time to make this +EV and i dont think thats the case here.

Thanks all for digging a little deeper. A block Bet/Fold the river is a better line here I would agree. I'll have to re-add that to my repetoire...

As played, I folded and Villian showed 74s for the rivered flush as expected... but Jeez, limping 74s UTG, I love playing against idiots...

Offense not taken. I "got all sarcy" because of the throw away response to a question that I didn't ask. No hard feelings.

I'm rusty, and just getting back into the swing of things. I remember getting myself into trouble with this hand from EP before, so I guess those thoughts stunted my pre-flop action... No big deal, I just don't want to be too aggressive with this hand OOP; though given the action of this hand, I would agree a PFR is probably a good idea...

    Thanks all.
