why does everyone hate on durr for being a bit on the feminine side? its not like he's a flamboyant flaming homosexual and he is probably the best shorthanded/hu NL player in the world so it's not that cool to hate on him if you are a member of the poker community.
My bankroll is the amount of money I would spend or lose before I got a job. It is calculated by adding my net worth to whatever I can borrow.

'cause some people have a serious fear of men that make their penises go to half-mast?

(It's just because he's soft and pretty, it's understandable. You guys are fine)

Tyson only has a soft voice though, Durr looks, moves and sounds like a gerbil boy.

I agree with Dale and all associated comments re: his body language.

HU play is not my thing and it seems I was wrong about the way he played the 10s. No big deal, it's all good for the learning process.

However, his physiology was all messed up and he was defnitely uncomfortable. If I didn't know he was one of the best online players, I'd swear he was on the verge of crying and only talking smack as a defence mechanism.

As he is a top player though, he probably meant every word he said, but it still looked ultra defensive & he was still very ill at ease, like he was about to bawl. Maybe 'cause he was caught in a Hellmuth explosion and on TV, maybe 'cause he got trapped with AA with all his fan boys watcing, or maybe his vibrating butt plug snagged on his boxers, who knows?

As for hating on Durrr is bad for all those into poker - why is it then ok to rag on Hellmuth?

It's not really great to hate on anyone in the game, we're all trying to be better players. But in regards to ragging on Hellmuth over others I'd say it's because of the fact that he sets himself up constantly.

There are plenty of recordings where Phil is talking about him playing on such a level above everyone at the table, even if the table has some of the really big names. Away from the action I'm sure he is a decent guy and gives complete respect to the others but at the felt it's a huge God-Complex. Nothing is ever his fault. The world is against him if he loses a standard hand. The only time I've not seen him go mental on someone for beating him is when he has gotten insurance on the hand. Which leaves me with a few ideas:

*There is obviously still a part of him that is the pimple-faced lanky kid he was growing up. Anyone who knows about football/soccer and the Brazilian Ronaldo has seen it before. Another example is the aforementioned Mike Tyson. All three of these guys can't let go of the person they were before the money and over compensate for it, constantly looking to be recognised. I don't mean to get all psychological on people but this is probably the main issue with Hellmuth. The fact he also "made it" so early in his career has probably been to the detriment of his personality at the table.

*There is also a possibility that he is playing outside of his mental bankroll limit. I really think that he has more money than he is comfortably playing with but (because of my first point) he can't allow himself to drop down a level to get the mental toughness needed to be able to win/lose the amount of money he plays for. Beats hurt when we have an emotional investment in the outcome of a hand, the more we play at a level we are comfortable at the less the beats will "hurt". Every time Phil loses a hand it's as if someone has stabbed him with hot needles. Not to quote Rounders here but he "just can't handle the swings". Money is too important to him.

And yet time and time again Phil is there, being the big man and expecting everyone to see things from his point on view at the table. He sets himself up for all the downers people say about him. Away from the table he is most likely a completely different person and someone who would be great to either chill with or talk poker with. At the table is a completely different story.

No, just look at any of his interviews. He's just a very socially awkward guy. I think he'd be acting the same if the cards were reversed and Hellmuth blew up at him for having unreal luck or something.

... or the butt plug thing.

I enjoyed the analsysis Andrew but the above quotes stood out. HAs anyoen stopped to consider that it's just an act? After all, the Poker Brat is who the poople wanna see - and even see him blow up. Arguably the most marketable man in poker. I mean, Simon Cowell doesn't act differently away from the judges chair, he is who he is. So for Phil to makes me wonder if it's not just a purposefully sculpted alter ego - much like Alice Cooper.

Slightly off topic (but still about Durrr) this month's Inside Poker magazine has an inteview with Negreanu and he is quite candid about his forays into online poker. In it he mentions an onliner, regarded as one of the best there is , 21 yrs old and very socially awkward and that once he'd played him live, has now gone on to "own him". I wonder if that is you know who.

That's a good point you've raised Thunder and something I have thought of. But this type of situation is very obvious in sports too, I've seen a number of football players (soccer to US people) who could be considered completely crazy on the pitch but away they are the nicest people you could meet.

I'm not going to say that he doesn't play up the "Poker Brat" tag, obviously he does. The clothing line kinda gives that away. But I think that's him taking the piss out of himself and making money from an aspect of his personality which most people recognise.

I think most people who have played poker for a while (and didn't just finish watching "Rounders" for the first time) know that. But when a guy is twitchy and gives off a lot of seemingly involuntary eye rolls and smirks, those are pretty obvious tells (...probably). Get off his junk, the guy's not god just because he's good at online poker.
lol you make such a terrible case..

and I admit Im inspired by the guy, hes young and successfuls. Every young guy wants to be successful.
