What if all SnGs were changed to Winner Take All?

Default What if all SnGs were changed to Winner Take All?

Was thinking a bit about the format and what's wrong with it. I like what it would do.

o ICM calcs become less relevent
o Gambling early is no longer harshly punished
o Pushing slim edges is also rewarded
o Bigger swings would fustrate/tilt regulars and give the fish some really sick runs
o More lottery-like. Fish like the lottery (bascially what a bad beat jackpot is.)
o Poor HU players would have a harder time getting a good edge

It would change up accepted strategy, create more action games with good edges to be found and enough swings to keep the fish comming back. Sounds like my kind of poker game!

I'd like that. Not to replace the current structure, but as an alternative.

    Default Satellite?

fnord, your advice sounds like a sound strategy for a satellite.

I don't use ICM because I haven't been convinced it is a winning strategy. Looks to me like it is more like an excuse when you lose. Of course, that IS helpful for controlling tilt, however, I don't think the possibility of my opponent using it would make me play a winner-take-all.

I think that structure would discourage a lot of newer players from playing them.

...which may make more donks flood to cash, so i guess I'm in favor of this

If the fish would cash one-third as often, why would they keep coming back?

Not sure I understand this, can you elaborate? Is it the specific model you don't like or the general principles?

Because the fish would rather win $100 once than $10 ten times. DUCY?

I think all the live play gets me pretty deep into their thought process...

Agree with fjuanl's comment that Stars should add these, I think people would play them.

    Sportsbook $5.50 & $11 S&G's
It just is a cash game with set buy in and no rebuys. I would switch to strictly cash if S&G's didn't pay out besides first. What would be the point.
You are an FTR station-pwn'ing badass motherf**ker. You have no pansyass, girly-girl, crybaby fears. Pwn the f**king stations like you know you ought to. And win some damn money, dammit.

Teribad players like the tourney format because of the capped loss. Also, short-stack and HU play are much more important.

    Its an interesting question.

I mess around occassionally with the 3player winner takes all tournies on pacific, since the standard is so bad I almost always end up HU very quickly with a full buyins overlay. Thats +EV in anyones book. On the other hand, does this kind of fall into the "horse race" category where theres enough players that your edge is no longer enough to make it +EV?

It would make the format a little less retarded though. When you think about it, folding premium hands like AJs (even AQs) when we're deep, just so that we can push T8o when we're short is a really messed up way of playing poker.
Just dipping my toes back in.

If you like the format you can play Sng satallites and sell the $T earned for cash
