Default A couple hands from tonight...

CTorode raises to 800.....? This looks semi-bluffy to me or maybe a mid-pp or a set. I shut down here if I get called or raised. Good raise, or should I just give up when he bets here? This looked like a decent opportunity to take down the pot if it worked.

Hand 1 (QQ) - I make it 150 to go preflop and shove over the donkminraise on the flop. Sorry to be harsh but that's a terrible fold on the turn - at a $2.25 tourney I'm never folding here. There is just so much that you beat that would play the same (Jx, 55, 77-TT, missed AK etc.) If you're not prepared to call the turn then you should just fold to the donkminraise on the flop.

Hand 2 (AQo) - I quite like this actually, particularly if you have a read that opp bets small every time he's first into the pot.

Do you really think Jx would limp/call PF here? It was a few hands into the tourney and this was the first hand both he and I played. This shows me he is either capable of folding preflop unlike most people at this level or he was just getting complete garbage. I really dont think he jas Jx here.

I really don't see why 55-TT would lead the turn that way. Maybe there is something I'm missing, but it just really felt like a set to me.

I really do appreciate your help though. I hope it doesn't seem like I am defending my decisions in hand 1 just because you said it was terrible, I just don't really get a few of the hands you mentioned being played that way. I certainly wouldn't play a mid pp or Jx that way. Guess I still have a lot to learn xD

The problem with your thinking is that you are giving someone at the $2.25 level way too much credit. Most people at that level aren't posting hands here and trying to improve their games. I could definitely see villian having AJ, KJ, QJ, as well as the PP's that Tai mentioned.

Even if villian is a solid player I could see a hand like 77 playing just like this. His lead on the turn was because you did not push over his raise on the flop, signifying weakness.

Yes, when I referred to Jx, I really meant hands like AJ, KJ, QJ, JT and maybe even J9s with which Villain could well have limped preflop and called your raise. If I had to take a guess as to what he had, it would be those hands IMO.

I really like the idea of floating in the second hand, if you just call...you may have the best hand at the moment and maybe OPP will play more passive throughout the hand, and with a check on the turn from them...you could bet the remainder of what you were going to raise anyway but this tgime you have more information.

Not sure if people would agree, but just another possible line to take

Sorry for being naive, but can someone explain to me the concept of "floating"....I'm not exactly sure what that means...

    From here - http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/...an-t13407.html

Float = Calling a bet in order to take a pot down later

kind of like a bluff slowplay or a bluff call.

e.g. you call suspected continuation bets on the flop in the hopes that the bettor will give up his unimproved AK and check on the turn. You then bet and hopefully take the pot away from the preflop aggressor. We are floating over the other guys flop bet looking for an opportunity to take the pot.

You generally "float" when you don't have anything, but suspect villian doesn't either and you feel you can take the pot away on a later street.

Alright, thanks. Thats what I thought, but the context it was used in was kind of confusing. I now realize it was a hypothetical situation. I'm retarded lol
