    Default Need some advice...

I'm about to make my first $1000 6-tabling the 10's on stars.

I started with $100, started at the 5's 4-tabling. I moved upto the 10's at $300, and after about 1000 tourneys combined at the 5's and 10's. I've been multi-tabling without software and seem to be getting by alright.

My question is: Should I invest in software before moving up? I'm sure the player pool will be much tougher at the 20's, and perhaps it's something I should really look into?

Wouldnt hurt I dont think. Pick up Holdem Manager for $49 I think to last you through the $22s then only need to pay the difference for full version when you move up beyond that.

Dont think you need it if you're running well so far, but for such a small portion of your roll its not a bad investment I'd suggest.

If you're playing 6 tables, I would definitely get PT and PAHUD (or PT3 since that includes a HUD). I'm not quite sure how you can keep an eye on all those tables at once to get reads on how everybody is playing - particularly on close decisions it can make the difference between an easy fold and an easy shove.

Generally speaking, I just sharkscope/startracker someone that I need to make a close call with and go from there. It usually makes the right call for me.

What are the pros/cons of these programs? I've never heard of Hold'em Manager, and does PT3 stand for Poker Tracker 3? I've used PT before with Ace HUD? (I think that's what it was called) for full ring a few years ago on an old computer. I don't have it anymore though.

yes and OMG dont buy PT3

Hold Em Mgr is much better at least for now. I started using the HUD going up to 8 tables and it is useful in spots. Generally they just help to get a general loose/tight sense and occasionally scream BAD.

Hold'em Manager comes with a HUD as well? Does it basically do the same thing as PT?

I actually think star tracker/scope works better than a hud.

Yeah HM comes with a HUD as well. Basically HM and PT3 are the competing next generation trackers/huds. I've never used PT3, but I love HM.

Main advantage I find, is multi-tabling I really only get reads on the guys who get out of line. A HUD helps identify the rocks who just arent playing but you dont kinda notice, and things like % to steal/etc where sometimes I get confused.

Does it give you stats on yourself as well? Is there a trial version I can try?

yes and yes, although I think it stops importing after a set number of hands. But you can at least see how it looks, make sure it runs etc

Hmmm, alright. I'm gonna give it a shot right now and see how it goes on a set of 6. I'm $14 off the 1K milestone!

I think it was like 5k hands, plenty for a trial run.

did you start the auto import?

You also need to tell it where your HH are.

    Thanks a lot.

Still only second level of my first set of 6 at the 20's but after startracker'ing a lot of the guys around me, I see A LOT of terrible players. It's probably also due to the fact that it's Friday, but I can't complain when people seem to want to stack off with TPNK everytime.

Ya, I started the auto-import, and it exceeded 5000 hands pretty quick from my old HH's.
