Default $5 - JJ vs push

Hey, first post, but don't let that stop you.

This was some 15 hands into the tourney. Villain was somewhat loose and had limped quite a few times preflop but hadn't shown much aggression. I had folded most hands so far so should have a tight image. Blinds were at 30/60.

Titan Poker $5.50 SNG, hand converted by the iPoker Converter at Talking-Poker.

    Button ($1020.00)
    SB ($1940.00)
    BB ($3300.00)
    UTG ($1380.00)
    UTG+1 Hero ($1830.00)
    MP ($1350.00)
    MP ($1690.00)
    CO-1 ($1160.00)
    CO ($1330.00)

    Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with J J
1 fold, Hero raises to 180.00, 1 fold, MP raises to 540.00, 5 folds, Hero calls 360.00.

    Flop (1170.00) T A Q
Hero checks, MP bets 180.00, Hero calls 180.00.

    Turn (1530.00) 3
Hero checks, MP moves all-in for 970.00, Hero ???

First having a tight image in 5$ throw that out the window They dont notice it...
I dont think he sound that loose, how many times had he limped, he could be limping small pairs? Did he limp on the button/late position after others had limped, he could do this with sc, Axs etc? You say he havent shown aggression, so his reraise should mean something to you...I personally check/fold flop...

    He could be TAG

Hi and welcome to FTR, it's good to have you here!

What to do preflop depends on reads. If MP was a good winning multitabler I would fold this. If he/she was very LAGG I would shove over happily. Since you didn't really have any solid reads, I think flat calling the raise is not terrible. However, I would probably just shove over preflop and hope he doesn't have QQ+ since low buyin players can 3-bet with a LOT of marginal holdings that you beat.

As played, you are getting 7.5 to 1 on the call and have 5 clean outs on the turn (excluding the K) so you're about 9:1 against to hit, so I think I would reluctantly fold since we can't assume that we won't face another bet on the river. Calling isn't terrible however since if you do hit, you will most likely win the rest of opp's stacks (so you have good implied odds).

As played, nothing to do other than check/fold.

Pre flop you have to either fold or shove.
If the player has been loose then it's an easy shove. If he has been playing normal then it's a fold.
If you have that guy thats always taking people off their hands then limping this for set value might not be the worse thing either.

As played I would say you are 99% beat... easy fold

I think that open limping JJ is very very weak and loses value from your hand particularly considering the blind level. If you have a read that opp likes to take people off their hands, then I am more than happy to standard raise and shove over his 3-bet.

I would probably also open raise TT in this spot too.

Thanks for your comments. I realized after posting that it was really the preflop decision that kept bugging me, not the turn. I considered both folding and shoving preflop, but somehow managed to convince myself to just call in case he had a bigger pair. Weak, indeed.

    Folded on the turn, btw.

Here is the problem with flat calling the 3bet pre-flop. The ONLY time you flat call with JJ is when you feel that villain would only 3bet a very narrow range and therefore plan to play JJ for set value (otherwise you are ahead of their range and should be shoving over the 3bet as others have mentioned). Unfortunately your stack sizes aren't big enough in relation to the blinds to be playing JJ for set value.
Poker is easy, it's winning at poker that's hard.

What was your plan on the hand if the flop is all lows ? I think preflop its shove or fold.
    As played fold turn

Given the pot size I would likely have shoved on a low flop.
