My answer for all of these is split 1:1:1, because in the 432 case i would do that, the 441 case i would, and so i feel obligated to be consistent and not base it on who answered what. also not splitting will kill the relationship with the roomies.

I felt like it was a clear case of 'drinks are on us' whatever is left over, we can deal with it then.

Honestly, even answering all the questions correctly doesn't mean you *earned* anything. I mean, what if person B flags down that specific cab? Can't win the money if the guy didn't put us in that cab.

I also feel like the cash is as much the friends we're meeting as it is mine that night.

If we walk out of the bar with like 2500 bucks after an incredible night, I would honestly push for a "bar fund" when the trio goes out again, the tab will be drawn against this stash.

My roommate said he would argue that all the money should go to the guy that answered all the questions and if he feels like splitting it, that's his option. The other two, in his opinion, should feel obligated to forfeit their shares since they answer no questions right. He also feels it's dumb to make a bar fund since that implies that the group we always drink with gets an equal share of the winnings.

I think it's crazy to treat this as anything other than an unearned win-fall and even cutting the other bar-friends in on it is banking good karma and building better friendships.

You don't need to hit any buzzer to answer any questions fastest, you have the option to consult the rest of your team, and if your buddy gets 3 questions wrong, all 3 get kicked out of the cab in spite of your performance.

Another great point was the questions could have easily been about changing tires for 40 hrs a day, and you'd be sitting comfortably while your buddy ran up a 3k score.

Attempting to pocket any more than 1k makes you an asshole imho.

I totally agree with nuts. If I wasn't able to answer any questions and my buddy answered them all I would feel like a total douche taking even 1c from him. Similarly if either of my friends felt they deserved 1c I would be pissed at them (whether or not I would voice my feelings or how strong they would be depends on a bunch of other factors). I would definitely offer up a portion of the money to ensure that everyone has a good night out (all 9 people) but the person who feels they have a right to the money after doing nothing to help obtain it is the asshole imo.

I'm having a real hard time reconciling this idea that you did anything to earn this money either. Rewording it, "obtaining it" doesn't work.

The 3 of you were given an opportunity to win money equally, though you over preformed, it should be considered a team win.

Before the game started did you run through the scenario's of how payment would be split based on answers given? I am guessing not. Did you know that your two buddies were illiterate and couldn't answer any of the questions? Prolly not.

Also, it's not like you invested any money to get this so consider it a windfall.

Personally I would have thrown out some trash talking comment like "nice answers dudes - NOT!!!! How do you want to split this up?" If they say split it three ways I do that because friends are worth way more than the money that is at stake. I also probably would have recommended picking up the bar tab for the group that night.

1. That's a grey area that wasn't presented in the OP. I thought that we assumed none of our friends knew the answers to any of the questions.

2. I don't know what youre getting at here.

3. You have to assume that the question set will approximate something that is standard for the game and as such treat this opportunity as an individual one. Suppose I have Barry Greenstein sweating me while I play NL Holdem tourneys online and agree to pay him some small% of my winnings but mainly we are just chillin cause we' homies . Now I accidentally register for a Stud 8/b tourney, and I have no clue how to play this game. My play would to be to ask for advice in every situation and pay him 100% of the profits, not adhere to the same % we had agreed upon for the NL tourneys.

4-this is in response to your following post in the thread- You obviously DID do something to win the money, while your friends did essentially nothing. Whether you consider it earned is up to you, but I question why you are on a poker forum if you have qualms about obtaining money without much effort and only on the merits of your wits and previous experiences.

edit: to clarify, you lose as a team. If you and you alone get 3 wrong, everyone is kicked out of the cab. Thus, you also win as a team. If you get 10 right, everyone gets 10 right.

3. Agreement was made before hand, and even before the stud 8 tourny you've acknowledge atleast to yourself how to deal with the money. Unlike the cash cab where all 3 individuals are green to the game and obviously no thought about splitting any money is made until the money is in hand.

4. Again, there is a level of agreement between all players at the table that you're playing a game for money strategy vrs strategy so it is a poor correlation to this scenario where you're not competing against anyone but, in fact, the game itself.
