Default why do people do this PART 2

you mean why do ppl blow worse hands out of pots on dry boards?
ok so i've been thinking about this. and i think i do this quite often. and i think its cuz of 2 reasons. #1. having a results oriented mindset. #2. fear of the bad beat.

in my QQ hand... i played it that way cuz i figured if i didn't... he would hit his 3 outer Ace on the turn or river. or miraculous running cards would come to make his straight. that kind of thinking is retarded and it often invades my play... ESPECIALLY when i'm on a downswing.

when the board is Jc 9c 6d... i thing its reasonable to play the QQ fast. as opposed to Kx 8x 8x. right?? at least thats what i've always thought. you make people pay for drawing... forcing them to call incorrectly. abc basics.

getting the most value out of your good hands is probably the most important aspect of online tourneys... well poker in general.

this probably sounds very elementary. and i'm still thinking about how the comments about my QQ hand apply in many other hands i can recall off the top of my head. its probably worth an hour (or many many more) to look at some others using poker tracker. and evaluate my decisions and analyze whether i was thinking VALUE or "i have to chase him away or he'll hit his miracle cards to beat me".

u know how it is when your still kinda green... you remember those times the bad beat happened and you think you played it wrong somehow and next time you won't let that happen. thats retarded and i need to never think that way again. lol.

So basically you're scared money? Maybe play stakes where the money means less to you and you'll be able to make better decisions without having your thought process clouded by fear of getting sucked out on?

its not scared money. its that i hate to lose. i want to win the tourney which means i have to stay in it. obviously this is not the right mindset. you can't really expect to win more than 1% of the time. it's a cousin of problem #1... playing results oriented.

i should trim the $3 rebuy i final tabled a few weeks ago. i got exactly what you need to win a 4000 field online mtt... a great run of cards over the last 100 hands. if i got the most value out of those hands... i'm sure i woulda been chip leader at the final table and been able to withstand the all in preflop KK vs AK hand that crippled me.

here comes some psychology ... i want to be great at everything i do in life... as most people i suppose. winning at poker means i'm great at it. obviously that mindset is flawed. fuck winning... make good decisions. make bad decisions. review and learn and move on.

i think this is a life lesson i need to learn/apply/remind myself of as well. just cuz you didn't get the result you wanted doesn't mean you did something wrong... or should of... or even could of done anything different given the situation, people involved, variables, etc. life includes the random.

    damn... i need a hit.

Feed the craving to be #1 though. I know what you're wrestling with on the whole concept of results do not equal a true portrayal or poker ability in the short term, I hear ya. BUT, don't let that damper your ravaging hunger to win each and every tourney you sit down at. I was playing a 27 player game the other night (actually 3 at a time - which is a little much for me) and I took a beat that brought me down to 16th place out of 16. In both my other current games I was in 1st out of similar size fields.
As I was sitting there and I felt this thought/feeling creep in, something like "guess I'm screwed on that one - focus on the good ones" -- then I paused. "HECK NO!" I'm winning that freaking game! I actually said it out loud, "I'm winnning THIS freaking game!"
Know what? I came in second place in both the other games, but THAT one? Yeah, you guessed it, I won.

This isn't a brag post - I'm saying Mr. 5th Element, feed the beast that drives you - CRAVE the win. So much so that it forces you to play better poker. Crave it so much you make better lay downs and better reads and better bluffs. Crave it so much that you play better short-stacked and you don't go down without a fight after a beat.
