    Default BR & Buy Ins

I currently have 72 BI ($5 + .5) and could move up to $10 + 1. However, after having a quite good run despite last weeks crash, I am loathe to move up. Also, even just a 5 game barren run at the next level will take a large chunk out of my roll and have me looking over my shoulder. But by the same token it will take forever to get to my preferred BR of 50 BI ($550).

I can't help feeling that I should be taking a shot at the next level to speed up my roll growth but at the same time don't want to risk what I've grown so far.

What number of BI do you normally operate at and how would you approach taking a shot at the next level bearing in mind the above?

    Thx.

I think the number of tables you play at once should have a baring on the answer.

It depends on you.. If you feel you can still play your A-game comfortably and not get effected by swings, 50 is enough.. I get too nervous so I go by the 100 buy-in rule..
    don't listen to a thing I say.. I can't beat 6.50s..

Two tables. May go for three. Hardly multi tabling, I know.

I would go with 30 then, but you dont want to be playing with scared money.

Your poll doesn't go high enough - I go for 100. Once you've had a 40 buyin downswing, you realise why 100 gives you more confidence than 50...

My rule of thumb is 40 buy ins to the level I need to drop to, so with a bankroll over $231 I would move to the $11, once my bankroll drops to $220 back then I move back to the $5.5

A large part of my problem is that I am winning at this level and do't want to upset the status quo of things. I know the $10+$1 SNGs are going to be pretty similar but I am in my comfort zone right now. Though how much of that is because I'bve not stepped beyond, I don't know.

It's like saving for 2 years to be able to buy XYZ then when you have a nice nest egg, you don't want to spend it and undo all that hard work. Can anyone relate to this?

Yet whilst I feel apprehensive, as $10 events are pretty much the same standard as $5, my roll could be twice as big as it is now!

if you don't feel ready, don't push it. At some point it would become silly but you aren't there yet

There is no rule that states that you have to move up, if you are comfortable at the level you play in there is no reason to move up.

I currently mainly play at the $16 although I can move up to the $27 from bankroll point of view

I like to do something different once in a while, for me it's on the weekend I usually hit a large field MTT instead of my nightly SnGs.
Why not pick one day of the week that you usually play well/have lots of time/well rested/etc. and say on that night I'm going to play at $10 stakes. The rest of the week you can play your regular game. After doing that for a while you'll be able to guage your comfort level.
