Default A few questions about the 10% rule?

now i usually play cash games but do dable in mtt's. i heard or read that there is a general strategy that if there is enough in the pot that you can increase your stack by 10%+ if everybody folds then moving in is a good play.

A few examples(lemme know if these are ok etc)

1500 stack blinds 50/100 ante 5 10 handed so there is 200 in pot if im utg with TT i should move in?

Same as above but with AJ say

Now does this also apply to 3 betting? Like assume i have 1500 blinds are 15/30 utg raises to 90 and mp calls 90 there is now 225 in the pot so should i just be pooshing like JJ/AQ/AK etc as i stand to increase my stack by more than 10%?

obviously with QQ/KK/AA etc you could play slower if table isnt gonna take notice and work you out. But i guess im asking is my thinking right? Is there anything else i missed with this strategy or would you reccomend i change anything else in my way of thinking?

The problem with the 10% rule is it can have you moving all in along way from the money when you are under no threat. Before you consider using it I would suggest you make sure your M or CSI (whichever you prefer to call it) is getting toward 8. If not AJ TT are just not strong enough to risk tournament life. You can make a smaller bet and still get away from the hand if you need to.

if your M is 8 the blinds and antes will always be > 10% of your stack.

What I pay attention to is the total pot at the table. If the pot is 10% of my stack preflop, then I know that I should be looking for hands that I am ok getting my chips in with. No more stealing. Ex. 3000 stack blinds 100/200. I might try a steal on certain players with this stack but normally I am looking for a hand to go all the way with.
