Default JJ in first hour of rebuy

Bought in for double, and lost whole stack after 45 mins on AK AI vs A9.

Rebought and now have 1600ish, when dealt JJ

Villain is in a lot of pots, he bets into checked pots all the time, his bets are usually bigger than the pot, he has shown down TPTK, and a set of fives, but mainly is folded to on the river.

    Hero UTG 1600
    Villain Button 6500
    dealt to Hero
    Blinds 25/50
Hero raises to 200, 5 folds, villain calls, SB calls, BB folds
    flop
SB checks, hero bets 400, villain calls, BB folds
    turn
    hero checks, villain checks
    river
    Hero?

During the rebuy hour, ranges don't really matter. I get my chips in. It would be nice to get your chips in pre.

Looking at your roll in your sig, are you rolled for rebuys? If you are rolled for double buy-in, add-on, and plan to just play the rebuy hour like a FO and leave when you bust and don't rebuy, then ok. But if not, IMO you shouldn't play rebuys if you aren't rolled for like 7 buy-ins.

For me, since it is hard for me to get money onto sites, I play tourneys that are 200 entries of my roll. In other words, if you have a $2250 roll, you should be playing $11.25 buy-ins. You can go with 100 buy-ins if you can get money back onto the site which means $22.50 buy-ins. So in a rebuy tourney, you should only spend either $11.25 or $22.50 including buy-in and rebuys/add-ons.

Hi, the sig is out of date.

I have no specific roll for poker at the minute, I was playing for fun because I wanted to play in a long tournament. Like paying for a round of golf at a good course when you know that it's a lot of money for you. Just because your game might improve further by playing 5 rounds of a soft course for the same money, nothing quite beats the excitement of the good course.

Question then, what sort of stack size are you looking to make in the rebuy hour. I.e at what point do you shut up shop and wait for the FO stage?

I'd probably just bet 600 on the turn and expect to get him all-in almost 100% of the time. Trapping him would be a good play if you had a lot more chips but it's unnecessary here when it's so easy to get all-in by just betting.

I still don't think that's OK, because if you play it like a freezeout you're going to make it to the break with fewer chips on average and make the money less often. What if you got to buy into a $100 tournament for $50 but you got half the starting stack of everyone else, would the BR requirements be that of a $100 tournament or that of a $50 tournament? I think it'd be the $100 tournament because half the time you're going to go busto without ever getting up to the stack everyone else started with.

However much the average player is spending on R&A (not what I personally am spending) is what I would use to determine if I'm rolled.

So concensus is we want it all in here.

If this wasn't a rebuy, are we still looking to get all in, or do we play it more carefully, and if so how?

its a rebuy! bet bet bet bet

if it was a regular hand, i'd still be betting. that ten is an ugly card because it makes a lot of 2pair hands and completes a straight draw. but still i think we need to bet and fold to shove

I don't like your analogy, but if you have money to blow, go for it. I wouldn't have a point where I would "shut-up shop". I continue to play and look for +EV spots regardless of stack size.

Bet how much? Shove is all I got left. Do I worry about paying sets if it's not a rebuy

Shove on the turn. If villan folds, you've already increased your stack by a third. If he calls and you win, even better. If he hit a set, rebuy and keep going.

gotta keep moving your stack around to move up in chips

Check on the turn is criminal. You have an overpair that is vulnerable to 12 overcards. During rebuy hour many AX hands will float with no draw. I'd push (maybe even push the flop; redonkulous overbets are more likely to be called by worse during rebuy).

baudib, in same situation if you had bet the turn, and an A came on the river, would you then fold as there's a good shot that villain had Ax? I love rebuys already, so am totally interested.

in response to OP, i agree... get 'em in there on the turn is the way to go

if you bet the turn you're all in.

He may have something like A9 but but it is not a big part of his range. If we had a bunch of chips and an A came on the river vs an unknown I would bet/fold.
