    Default Side Pot Strategy

I recently started toying with the concept of playing hands i wouldn't normally play when a short stacks has shoved.

Let say the call is less the 10% of my stack and i'm looking at things with a view of accepting a loss on the main pot but looking to outplay other caller(s) in the side pot.

What are my guidelines outlining a strong strategy for this scenario?

    Opinions please!!

I have some questions on how light we are calling here, etc but will wait to see how the thread developes before adding these thoughts!

I think you have to be more specific as to stack sizes, how late in the tournament, is it bubble, how many places pay, etc. But if it's less than 10% of your stack and you are getting good pot odds I think it's reasonable to call with a wide range.

Also, I have been criticized by many players but if I flop a good/medium-strength hand I don't believe in checking it down unless I will somehow benefit greatly from the shortstack being eliminated.

I.E.: Final two tables of an MTT; 10 left. I have three times as many chips as anyone else at the table and I'm running them over. Shortstack goes all in for 1/10th my stack. Two people call and I have them covered easily. I have J9 in the BB and call. Flop comes 932...I'm pushing all-in.

The risk of the shortstack surviving does not outweigh the benefit of NOT breaking up the table.

i'd still check it down, if you get two folds what have you accomplished? if you are the big stack stack i see to folds OR they have YOU dominated....just my thoughts.
