Default Need advice on calling range?!?

    Hey everyone,

This will be my first post here and I hope to get some good info on the following. First let me introduce myself:

I'm 23 years old from Holland and currently a 2nd years student in real estate. Next to that I started out maybe 1,5 months ago with a bankroll of 30 bucks and set out to try and grind a nice bankroll on the 3.25 MTT (45 players) on Pstars. When I get around to it I play and with a reasonable amount of time spend playing I've now accumulated 450 dollars. I've also participated once in the 10+1 8k guaranteed MTT on Pstars and finished 9th after a stupid play I made.

In these SNG's I make it ITM 1 out of 2 times which is fairly decent I think since the tourney is a turbo and consists of 45 players. In the beginning of these tourneys I always start out tight, and stay that way until I drop down to 10 BB or less. I also don't blindsteal in later stages that often unless BB/SB are nits & ofcourse the later you get in the tournament the more you cant afford to raise, you are push-folding. Now my short stacking game is pretty good I think, but I think I can use some help or suggestions on the calling range in later stages of this tournament. At one point you are push folding and I hate to throw away ATs because of an earlier push or raise. Basically my calling a raise/push in later stages is basically TT+, AJs+, AQo+ and KQs. (this when I'm about 10 BB or higher) When I get more short stacked ofcourse with 5BB or less I call a bit wider.

Now my question to you all, what are your calling (or reshoving) ranges when your playing a turbo MTT and you have about 7-10 BB?

I really hope to get some replies on this as a wider range of calling gets me in trouble a lot.

    Thanks for your help!!

    Greets,
    Jimmy

anything over 2-tables goes in here, despite the fact it might be called a SNG.

I think you'd be better off posting specific hands w/reads and situations, etc.

In general, your calling range should be uber-tight on the bubble. Apply the Gap Concept: You're throwing away a lot of hands that you'd be happy to get it in with if it folds to you.
Playing big pots at small stakes.

Tough to say without specific situations - namely player reads as to what their ranges are and how active they've been recently.
Personally I've found it necessary to widen my calling range a bit as I was overly tight and hadn't really familiarized myself too much with ICM stuff (via Pokerstove, etc.). As you mentioned, it greatly depends on my stack size and what that is in relation to the other stacks on the table.

I disagree with bein uber tight at the end. I think you need to play looser from position and recognize betting patterns. When players are just trying to get ITM they become very tight which gives you lots of oppurtunites to steal antes and blinds. If blinds are 500/1000 with a 125 ante and 6 handed that means your stealing 2250 a round and if your stack is between 8-10 big blinds your gaining between 15-20% of your stack by pushing and not being called. I open my hand range in and around the bubble to: any pair, 10Js or better, any A?s, and all you traditional power hands. This of course always with position in mind. Also I am a semi-tight aggressive player so this works for me.

Huh???.... this isn't the nature of this guy's question. He's inquiring about 'calling ranges' and how much he should potentially widen that range as his stack size decreases. He obviously knows how to get his chips in and the nature of the games... look at his rate of success so far (albeit a short amount of time...still sounds like he's doing some (maybe many) things right).
There are some good articles on here somewhere regarding bubble play as I'm sure you'll find others online as well. I've read one ariticle that brings up where you'd want to loosen up calling ranges considerably and that being in turbo sngs on bubble with very high blinds where sometimes calling with a hand that would have decent showdown value could be considered the 'right play'.(not sure where that one is either). I think it is a good question though,... and still say.. 'very specific' to nature of your table, stack sizes, your stack size in relation to others, and read on opponents. I called down a guy light yesterday to discover he was pushing on a med.stack with T-3o... whoa.... yah... I doulbed thru him and left him crippled.
At other times GapConcept prevails (had two games yesterday where I took hits crippling my stack and actually came back for the win on less than 1bb, which was way cool.. but also way lucky,...but not all luck).
Pumping numbers into Pokerstove or Sitngopowertools might be of some use to you - - - playing around with ICM and seeing what might or could be profitable or +EV.
GL on the tables and way to go with your successes so far. I've never given any time to the 45plyr. turbos and pretty much stick with STT 9plyr. table.
