Default New member - possible training opportunity

I not sure if you get thousands of posts like this year but basically I’m looking to improve my game. I’ve been playing for over a year at Star’s under the user name WedgeHunter and probably I am a donk. My ROI is around 7 (due to a recent attempted tightening up in my game) however I have losses running into $700’s on Sharkscope, a lot of these losses I feel is down to playing ridiculously high buy ins – for a beginner when I fist started.
I have had and still have many leaks in my game – discipline (playing drunk – under the influence of drugs after night’s outs etc – terrible bankroll management), and game theory – chasing flush draws – shove or fold – general lackadaisical play -the standard stuff really.
I have played cards and gambled frequently from a very young age (five or six). The card game I’m competent at is 3card Brag and as English users will know it is a very aggressive and luck based game (in the variant I play you have to pay double to end the betting and see one’s opponents cards) – due to this background in Brag I feel when I first started playing hold-em I failed to understand the complexities of game and was often firing out pot sized bets – re-raising and ultimately being stacked off.
When it comes to bankroll management I used to find it hard to get motivated by games under $10 dollars as I don’t have a bad job and think nothing of sticking £100, £200 etc on a football game or horse I fancy.
However I’m starting to change and realise that’s it’s all about the competing, going deep, making correct calls, laying hands down basically trying to beat the game whether it’s 10 cents or 10 dollars.
Lately following some advice (simply fold more) from a player who regularly turns profit – I have started to have some results and would like to think I’m turning a corner.
What I’m hoping to get from FTR is a possible trainer and some intelligent answers to questions I post on the forums even if the hand I post/question I ask is terrible.
I’m not a total novice having racked up over a 1000 SNG’s and read many books (HOH, SS, Kill everyone etc – I’m not saying I have taking everything contained in them in!), I currently don’t use PT, I have had Sharkscope but found it had negative effect on my game. I’ve started to put in 3 to 4 hours a night (GMT) unless I have a bird on the go.
My idea to get the ball rolling for training would be someone I could send my tournament hand history’s to and they could read through and add comment/advice/explanations when appropriate – a fee could be worked out on number of hands analyzed?
I have seen similar posts to this on P5’s and seen the poster get shot to bits – but all I’m trying to do is be honest from the outset and hope for a positive response .I’m sure some one will offer the over/under on positive to ridiculing replies anyhow!

    Kind Regards
    Billy

P.S I'm struggling to be able to post an image I was hoping to post my Sharkscope graph - the general one and then the graph for ROI/Profit/loss by No of entrants - to help provide more insight.

Hi and welcome to FTR, it's good to have you here! Read the FAQs, all the posts in the Tactics Guide, read as many posts here as you can and above all, post hands/tourneys for review, that's the best way to improve.

You will find that people here are more than willing to answer your questions or refer you to resources when said answers already exist simple out of a love for discussing the game, a desire to help people, or the believe that in giving advice to others, you become better yourself.

    Welcome to FTR,

post some hands, you can post entire Sngs as well (just make sure you run them thru the tournament trimmer first), I have no doubt that after a month of posting and reading FTR your game will improve a lot

Welcome to FTR! There are lots of folks on FTR that are more than willing to review hands and comment on whole tournaments.

Congratulations on making a step to improve your game!

    hey,

no need to pay for someone to coach/sweat you at the moment. As is said above, just read all info on FTR, post some hands, some trimmed tournies and you're headed in the right direction.

Good to have another Brit on here - I used to play Brag. Brutal game! And it could well have stunted your poker game. Brag is all about raw aggression, which is good for poker, but at the small stake SnG's all you need to do is play ABC and get a good knowledge of Push/Fold strat.

You're on the right track by being on FTR.

    Welcome to FTR!

I can say FTR is a great place to learn. Being here in the short time I have has really improved the results of my tounament play, and I see myself making fewer mistakes with every game.

Everyone here is knowlegable and willing to help. So I hope you have a good experience here as well.

compliments on being very honest about your game
as mentioned above ftp is a great forum to learn from
save the coaching until a later stage
i think you already know how to improve some of your game
the more you play the more you will learn.
everytime someone takes you out of play
    evaluate why .

Thanks for the replies, I’ll guess just start posting hands, game theory questions etc and devour the forums.
One afterthought that has struck me is that obviously I have signed up using the name I play with, which is fine as I want my game evaluated as much as possible. Hopefully the pride factor in knowing that others (if they wish) can view my stats, will help me control my mad bankroll decisions and quit losing streaks when I’m on tilt etc.
However I was thinking how many players “Google” their opponents, imagine I mean in theory (I had made 100+ post on here) someone playing against me could gather all types of information about the style of game I play, see that for instance I min raise from EP with Aces (example) and adapt their game accordingly. Maybe this is bit far fetched?
Roughly thou how many people on FTR actually use same name they post under as they play under?
Is they any other obvious disadvantages to using your actual screen name?

    Welcome WedgeHunter
Don't worry about the screen name for this reason: if you're playing a guy who's reading our forums to find out how you play, you'll have all his chips before he's figured you out. A good player won't waste time doing that, they'll watch what you do and what you show down at the table.
I say this considering that you have declared yourself a SnG player, not a ring guy.
My #1,#2 and #3 tips: Listen to most of the folks on here. The quality of advice is superb for an online forum. You'll learn fairly quickly which good players on FTR your game is like and which your game is unlike. Listen to each kind, then adapt the best comments/strats to YOUR game. When you ask for review/advice, and get powerslammed, don't let your pride keep you from listening.

My SN here is the same as my handle on a number of poker sites. The reality is that the (vast) majority of your opponents are idiots who would never think of Googling their opponents and even if they did, wouldn't understand whatever they found.

Perhaps the only time it matters is when you regularly play against tight regulars, but they will get reads on you from hands you have shown down in the past and their heads-up display anyway.
