Default AQ on the button, raise in front

    PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $1.00+$0.20 Tournament, 15/30 Blinds (6 handed) - Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    SB (t6055)
    BB (t1860)
    UTG (t1425)
    MP (t1095)
    CO (t1705)
    Hero (Button) (t1360)

    Hero's M: 30.22

Preflop: Hero is Button with ,
1 fold, MP calls t30, CO raises to t120, Hero ?

CO is a tight player thus far, and no showdowns. Do I flat, fold or 3-bet here? My gut says to 3-bet to see where I stand, against a lag, I am happy to flat and play post flop in position. But being so early in the tourny I don't know if this guy just hasn't had hands even a lag would bet with. I generally have good pre flop selection on hands, but I have a hard time with the hands that are at the bottom of my range facing a pfr, hands such as this or 99-JJ. The problem with flatting is I generally either felt on the flop cause I hit something, or win a small pot.

I would probably fold this pre-flop. It's early in the SnG, a tight player has raised over a limper, and AQ can get you into a load of trouble.

So how much equity do we need to 3-bet pre flop? Assuming tight range for CO. 99+, AJo+, AJs+, I have 42.7% equity, but if I have JJ I have 52.2%. Learning how much equity I need against a likely range to either flat, fold or 3-bet would be a huge gain to my game. At least I think it would.

For a lag I would probably use this range; 55+,ATs+,KJs+,ATo+,KJo+ which I have 51.3% equity. Is this to wide a range for a lag? And should I flat or 3-bet against that range?

I agree with Rage, against a tight player I am folding this pretty fast since we're behind their range (which I would put as TT+ AQ+ with the limper in front).

Against a LAG I would flat call and get it AI on an A or Q high flop. I do not like 3-betting against a LAG because we'll be priced in to call a shove and 3-bet/folding is spewing chips. In fact, I would rather just shove over here than 3-bet less than AI, but my first choice would still be to call.

Well the advice given will definitely help. How about AK, are we flatting AK as well against a tight player? Or is AK position dependent?

Anyways, I would like to say thank you again to all who have ever replied to my posts and to those in the future. The amount of information I have gained from this forum has been overwhelming, and I am not sure I will ever be able to apply it all perfectly to a tourny, but alas, I will try.

In this spot, I would also flat call with AK. One of the situations that I'd 3-bet with AK would be if it was level 1 on a full table, I was UTG+1 and UTG minraised. This would be so that we can clear out some of the players who would otherwise have cold called the minraise.

I flat AK but I'm folding Aq
This is not my signature. I just write this at the bottom of every post.

Yeah, I should have folded. I ended felting a Q high flop. I had been getting such a crappy run of cards lately that I just went on tilt with this one.

If you call preflop you should felt a Q high flop, else why are you calling pre?

I agree, Q high flop is about the best one pair flop you can hope for with AQ, it's better than an A high flop
