    Default Operation: Play Poker

That's all, I need to start playing like 3-4 hours a day minimum. I get in bad funks where I don't play at all for like a week and I basically just sit around and do nothing.

Game of choice will probably be PLO but I might toss in some NL and HORSE games when I'm bored. Money total doesn't mean much to me for now, I know if I play enough I'll make plenty.

So the goal for now til the end of the month is to put in 50 hours playing poker.

I thought I'd separate this post from the OP because I feel like it will probably ramble on. I believe I have a great handle on poker and I understand that I've either run like god my entire NL/PLO career or I'm just really good at small-stakes poker. I'm going to go with a little bit of both but I am very confident in my game, especially short-handed PLO.

For some reason though I tend to play just enough every month to keep my head above water and my bank account level. For a while this didn't seem that bad but the last few days I have felt as if I've wasted the last 7-8 months of my life breaking-even at life and that's just stupid. I would like to start concentrating on putting in the hands as I know I've put in plenty of time "off the felt" so to speak. I don't want to look back on this time and say "what-if" because I just wasn't willing to put in the hands.

My short-term goal is to prove to myself that I can truly grind for 3-4 hours a day (if not more) and aggressively move up to the mid-stakes. I say short-term but seeing how I freaked out and took a ton of my BR offline when I got 1-2-teddied by a virus it might take a little longer than I had hoped. Add in $2k/month in expenses and you can see how it's easy to just chill at small-stakes poker for a long time if you only play like 10hr/week.

    So more in-depth immediate goals:

    1. Play more poker
    --3+ hours daily
    2. Play focused
    --No TV, just music
    --6 tables max
    3. Work on myself outside of poker
    --fitness
    --career ambitions

If you haven't already, you might need to zero in a bit here. Vague goals are tough to get any traction on.

    BOOOOYAKASHA

was sitting around feeling sorry for myself at like 3AM and decided to fire up the tables. 6 buyins later I was on major tilt and hating life. I stuck it out and started to run a lot better and finished...........

$2.85 IN THE BLACK BITCHES. 2010 hands, 5.5 hours of poker. YEABUDDY.

Edit: had 400bb, 300bb, 300bb, 200bb, 200bb, 100bb stacks when I finished. Pretty epic if you ask me.

    Re: Fitness

In October a friend and I made a prop bet about who could bench more by Dec. 31st, luckily I won and made some mobnies. I was in the gym 4-5 times a week and was about as strong as I had ever been. Fast-forward 3 weeks and I've only been 4 times. That needs to change. I hopefully flipped my sleep schedule as I woke up at 5:30 this morning which is cool. I was thinking about taking a 30 minute walk each morning when I wake up (hopefully the weather warms up) and another walk after my daily poker session. This will at the very least keep me active and should give me some time to get a lot of thoughts out of my head.

Playing 5+ hours yesterday of non-tourney poker definitely was not easy but I think I can do it daily if I were to break it up into 2-3 hour sessions. I was a bit disappointed in h/hr at 6max PLO which was about 1.2 hands/minute or like 70 hands an hour. I was hoping it would be around 85h/hr/table so I could 6-table and could play 2k hands in 4 hours.

I don't intend on putting too much strategy in this thread but here's a little tid-bit:

    -3betting with AAxx

One of the biggest leaks I see people making is 3betting bad AAxx type hands in PLO, especially when OOP. PLO is a pot-control game and when you are 100bb deep and 3bet AAxx you lose all ability to control the pot. Because a hand like AA92 no suits plays so poorly post-flop it makes more sense to keep the pot small and be under-repped.

However, 3betting a hand like AAxx double-suited or AA89 with one suit or even AA55 one suit is much better. Our ability to play aggressively post-flop increases by 15-20% when we have 2 suits, an additional pair, or connected cards with a suit. This is quite a jump and thus I pretty much 3bet any AAxx hand with good post-flop playability from any spot. The only exception to this rule is when I'm more than 150bb's deep. Stacking off this deep in PLO is generally reserved for only strong hands thus I feel flatting PF and playing for top-set-value (not a joke) is a better line.

A final note, read your opponents bet-sizes and timing. Snap-potting a flop generally means a ton of strength while someone half-potting draw-heavy boards typically means a draw/air.

Gemini's cannot follow any routines, its written

you start out with a bang, then fizzle like sodapop

instead, try listing possible tasks you want done during the day and then trying to complete them in no particular order, only as you feel like it.

    use Chandler Project if needed

and then find a way to reward yourself if you complete all you set out to do during the day

i jot this down by experience obv

interesting, I don't follow astrology b/c I think the stuff is so general it could be applied to someone born Jan 21st, May 31st, or October 15th

however, that sounds a lot like me!

    Spenda,

I've been thinking about giving PLO a try and see how that success compares to the Hold'em game. Can you give me some insight on the compared profitability of the two?
  26. #26
Yea I know my winrate is definitely higher at PLO than NLHE however it's over a smaller sample size.

One thing to keep in my is that it's a much harder game to multi-table, I believe there is 1 person going for SNE and he's 12-tabling 1/2 6-max. I top out at like 6-6max tables. Also, your h/hr is lower b/c the player/flop % is def. higher at PLO.

PLO is such an interesting game you'd be doing yourself a huge disservice if you tried to just multi-table nut-peddle the game. I'd suggest starting with 2-4 6-max tables and getting a solid understanding of starting hands and positional play.

I'll probably make a long-winded post in here sometimes about PF hand-selection.

Oh yea, playing goal for tomorrow: tighten the fuck up out of the SB.

Well Spenda your not alone when it comes to playing very little at times. Maybe its because of different reasons but i get like that. Sometimes i think about playing and i'm like just like f that. lol and then watch t.v or do something else. But i have a kid so its tough to make time for poker sometimes. I'm not nearly active enough as i should be.....gym whats that? i know thats bad. Although i do have a punching bag lol but i only beat on that when i'm mad. Anyways good luck on the felts and ALL of your goals!!!!!

Well I'm playing plenty of poker but I'm not winning. Blah Blah Blah whine whine whine I'm over it. My biggest fear in poker is putting in a ton of hands and breaking-even or losing, and that is this month exactly. I started the first 10 days or so playing a lot of tournaments/180mans and I pretty much broke even. Then I took a week off b/c I hated life, came back to PLO and other games and have pretty much made nothing (I'm up like $400 from playing poker this month). Luckily I'm up plenty in other ventures but that's not much consolation really.

I'm making the executive decision of dropping down in stakes and playing 10k hands of 25plo and 50plo, working my way back to 100plo. The variance of this game drives me nuts at times but I know I can beat it. I already have about 3k hands at 25plo done and I'm winning so hopefully by the end of this month or very early in February I'll have improved a ton and will be back at 100PLO. Having to withdrawal $1400 or so in a few days certainly won't help; however, I'm currently rolled for 100PLO so if I run anywhere near normally over these next 20k hands I'll be good to go.

Oh yea, if you're a GS member we have GTS Event #1 on PS in like 90 minutes!

I seriously thought FTR was broken. Last post was WildBobAA, original was Spenda... it's gotta be a glitch.

GL to whoever's op this is!

I started and then stopped and then started

I cannot keep up with these things, the swings of poker don't make me want to track my results all that much. I'm sticking with PLO for the time being, Bob you can keep the name, I won't update this thang much.
