I tend to move to my lucky seat number 5 f I am not catching cards for a while, as soon as that seat becomes available I will move.

Thought: Not in any way unethical.

Is there a way to switch seats without taking money off the table (if your stack exceeds 100 big blinds)? If not, I can see how seat switching would be considered unethical because you're taking chips off the table then returning to the game.

There is no way to switch seats AND taking money off the table. You have to buy-in for the same amount if you come back within 30 min. or so. Live and online.

I think @ most live casino poker rooms, you're allowed to put in a request for a seat change. That is not the same thing as leaving the table or taking cash off the table. It simply means you are moving seats at the same table. The last time I was @ a casino, a player requested a seat change and that person was given a button to indicate he had done that. I assume that means there's only a certain number of times you can do it or maybe a limited time before you can do it again. Online I haven't seen an option to change seats.

In a casino I would wait for a dealer change so you don't hold up the game. And the only reason is to move to a better position or move away from the dealer if you want to smoke.

I change seats if I can get position on a donator and/or put tight/passive/short opponents to my left.

mathematically, changing seats has no impact, BUT... changing seats may in fact help emotionally and psychologically a player who is in a bad card rut. This emotional band aid may, in fact, be much more important than any mathematical strategy you can throw in. More money is lost on tilt than at any other time. If a change of scenery can prevent tilt than by all means, move. Look at it like this.... changing seats can't hurt you, can it? |

Ok, gonna kinda hijack this thread a lil, but what is everyones favorite position at a 9 or 10 person nl live game? I'm a fan of seat 6 or 7 but I'm just curious if anyone else has any particular seat they like to sit in. It can be for any reason really.

I have found that changing seats can help me if I feel like I'm about to tilt. Preferably to another table, but at the same table is fine too. Sometimes getting another vantage point can help clear my head. |

I like to sit in seat 1 because I can look to my left very easily.... good for hijacking button.. also, I can hide (behind dealer) from seats to my immediate right (which is who I play most of my pots against). |
