    Default 5+.50 SnG/ 9 Players

Alright, I'm going to comment on a few things, but expect taipan, ginger and others will follow up with more thoughts/comments (better I hope).
In general I find your early play looser than I find profitable. Being aggressive is good, but combined with loose standards, you're leaving a lot up to chance. Admittedly you did play the best hands you got at least.
    Specific things I noticed:
Hand 2 - lucky catch. after you got two calls on the turn, did you think you were ahead in the hand? what would you do if the river was a blank, let's say 2 of spades.
Hand 3 - i fold this preflop from early position. raising with gutshot - that's not your standard play i hope.
Hand 14 - I always bet two pair (amount depends on opponents, situation, board texture), but this is an example of why. You let your opponents see the whole board and either find out they have nothing or get scared of the possible hands you made. If you bet the flop I feel like you get 1 call, then you bet the turn they probably give it up.
Hand 24 - I bet the flop - make sure it's the same size as your continuation bet, you'll often get a call from someone with nothing.
Hand 28 - Not much you can do about it. I could say a whole bunch of mumbo-jumbo about deciding the winner of the tourney on a probably coin-flip, but honestly, I'm allin in a heart beat. Regardless of what happened preflop you woulda been allin on the flop and gotten burned anyways.

First, thanks for you input. Second, if there is anyway for me to post tourn histories like this to make it easier for people or if I am missing important info please let me know. I would like to make it as easy as possible for people to help me with my play.

Hand 2- I did get out of line here. After reviewing it now, I have to admit this was not a good play on any part of this hand. What are your thoughts on the flop bet? The turn and the river I know were dangerous as the only calls would have been from higher pairs or made straights.

Hand 3- (slight discrepancy) I raised preflop then check/folded the rest of the way not raise with gutshot. And no, gutshots I hardly ever put much into. Either way though, it wasted my chips. I think I raised becaue I had gone 8 minutes without playing a single hand and I was hoping I had a tight image. After 3 callers and no help on the board I shut down.

Hand 14- Thanks, I still sometimes have this want to slow play the 2 pair and end up in a bad spot more often than not.

Hand 24- Another bad check trying to induce a bet from Die Spieler. Very dangerous with a player like him in retrospect.

Hand 28- I would appreciate other thoughts on putting your tourn life on the line with AKs against someone that has you covered and then some.

Hand 2 - I'd feel a lot better about this bet if it were checked to you on the button. With 4 people and you're acting first, I just wouldn't.
Hand 3 - my bad, I misread it.
Well the thing about heads-up or really anything from the bubble to the end, you should have a great idea about who your opponents are. SNGs are a test of survival. Before you get to the point where you feel like you know who's who, I don't put my tourney on the line without a premium situation KK, AA preflop (maybe if I have a huge chiplead JJ, QQ, AK) and made hands.
So hopefully while you've been watching the losers KO each other with bottom pair suckouts and bluffs, you've figured out who to be careful against and who you KNOW you're better than.
***Here's my 2 cents on your tourney life late in the game - If you're sure you're better than your opponent, do you want a coin-flip to decide who wins? Use patience, good ICM and guts to grind on a weaker player. If you know they're better than you (there are good players out there?), I'd play very tight and wait for them to screw up or 'til the blinds are so high you can play a solid push/fold game.

PS - I'm sure you'll get some better feedback on this post. I'm thinking since it's Friday, folks have other stuff they might be doing?

Thanks again, and boy I hope so.

I'll have a look at this later on when I get a sec.
  7. #7
I haven't read the other posts, so here's my take:

    1. A6s - the preflop call is a little loose, I'd prefer to have one more limper to improve my implied odds, but it's not terrible.

    2. K9o - preflop is just OK I guess, but remember that if you're calling here you're playing for two pair or better on the flop. On the flop, I definitely do not lead into THREE opps with middle pair. Just check/fold against that many players. I DEFINITELY do not lead the turn, that is just spewing chips. Do you honestly think that none of them has a jack here? As played, river shove is fine

    3. QJs - fold preflop from UTG+1, it looks pretty but can get you into a lot of trouble particularly from out of position

    5. AKo - I just shove over preflop and be done with it, you're not folding, and to get flat called (potentially by more than one player) and miss the flop puts you in a difficult position.

    6. JTs - fold preflop for the same reasons as hand 3. As played, betting the flop is fine after opp checks but make it at least 100 since you would rather just take the pot right here. On the turn, definitely check behind rather than betting again, in fact I just check it down after the flop bet gets called.

    8. JJ - raise 3x BB, don't donkminraise. Don't show. Why give away free info?

    9. 87s - insta fold preflop from UTG.

    11. 98o - fold preflop, blinds are getting too high to call here (it's more to do with your opps' stacks than yours).

    12. AJs - 240 preflop not donkminraise. Postflop it's fine.

    14. QTo - raise preflop (240) if you want to play rather than calling. They won't mess with you as the big stack. As played, BET THE FLOP. Low buyin SNG players are generally calltards, so bet and let them call! Plus, you'd hate for another broadway card to come on the turn and for opp to start betting aggressively. DEFINITELY bet the turn.

    15. A9o - 250 to go preflop. Don't donkminraise ("DDMR")

    16. K2s - fold to the turn bet, there's not a lot you beat here.

    17. J2s - raise or fold preflop, don't just complete. As played, I would bet the turn after opp checks behind on the flop.

    18. KTo - taking a stab on the turn is OK but give up once you get called, not much point firing the second barrel when the river card completes some possible draws.

    19. A6s - raise preflop, don't be so passive! 250 to go. Bet the turn.

    20. K8o - river bet is good, don't be tempted to go for a river check/raise with the second nuts.

    21. KTs - 250 is fine preflop

    23. QTo - as per 19, raise or fold preflop, I would raise this 300

    24. Q8o - as per 19 and 23, raise or fold preflop, I would raise this 300

    25. 33 - as per 19, 23 and 24

    26. 84s - just fold to the turn bet, or if you want to raise, DDMR! Opp will almost never fold to your donkminraise and your hand has NADA showdown value. As played, the river bet is very gutsy but probably not such a bad move after opp checks the river. Good sized bet too (although 500 may do the job). I wouldn't ever be in this situation though.

    27. T9s - DDMR. 300 to go if you want to play (which I would).

    27. T9s - DDMR. 300 to go if you want to play (which I would).
Thanks for the input. Didn't even notice all of the "DDMR"s. Is there ever a situation to min raise someone or should that be just deleted out of my mind? I also noticed that I seem to forget that if they are not willing to call the flop the only way they will call the turn is if they improve (to possibly better than my hand). Besides absolute nuts what are your thoughts on slowpay in a tournament? Let's say a set on an uncordinated and rainbow board. Do you bet out or check UTG?

lock I had the whole DDMR bug a while back and taipan helped me see the light. I'll hazard a guess that his response will be EJECT it from your game.
I'll tell you I will do it on very rare occasions now when I REALLY want a call, I'll sneak one in. For example when I know if I 3XBB raise all the folks behind me will fold and I pick up QQ - AA, I'll try that. The basis behind that move is I can't stand to let someone see the flop for free and possibly smoke me, in this case I'm building a much larger pot for minimal risk. When I say rarely, I mean once in like 250+ hands or something.
So I'd say never minraise when you want a fold.

At low buyins I just wouldn't bother ever minraising preflop. If you're raising preflop you're doing so to a) build the pot because you have a big hand, b) avoid getting 6 callers with a hand like AKo (which makes it impossible to c-bet the flop if you miss) or c) bluff. At low buyins a minraise accomplishes none of those objectives.

At high buyins I do see some players minraise since that has the same effect as a 3-4x BB raise but then again you're usually playing against very tight players.

The thing about low buyin players is that they are usually calling stations, so if so, why not bet your strong hands to build a big pot? If they have middle pair on an unco-ordinated rainbow board they may well call if you bet but will check behind if you check. Plus, if you bet, they may do something wacky like shove over to try to "pick off your bluff".

The only time I'd slowplay a monster hand is on a very draw-free board against a very aggressive player. I might even slowplay a hand like AK on an A93 rainbow board if I think opp will bluff at me.

You click on this link - http://poker-tools.flopturnriver.com...-Converter.php

    1. On your pokersite look for the option for downloading Hand Histories, in Stars it's Options>Instant Hand History Options - set it to download in a file somewhere on your computer - I used a folder on my desktrop until I got PT3.
    2. Use the Hand Converter or Tourney Trimmer tool on this site. They're under Poker Tools in the left hand column. For a specific hand you'll copy and paste the hand itself. For a tourney or SnG, you'll browse and pick the HH file for that whole game (it'll make more sense once you've got them downloaded into a file, you'll see what I mean).
    3. The converter/trimmer spits them out and you can copy and paste them into the forum.

Send me a pm if you have any problems/questions, posting in this thread it might not get responded to for quite some time.

Note that you need at least 10 posts to be able to post links (which the trimmer output contains). If you want to post a tourney for review before this, PM me and we'll work something out.

Or just copy it to word and find/replace all links with nothing. That's how I made it work.

In the links on the left side of the screen is a "Tounament Trimmer" and a "Hand Converter"
    Pick which one you need.
Click on it and play around with it for a little bit. It will all make sense as you use it more.
After you do that you can post them here.

What they were talking about is the Trimmer puts links inside the output that Flopturnriver does not let you post until you have ten post.

you have to go to :
options/hand history/pick a file to save it in or write down the path it defaults to/make sure to check "save hand history"/

Now after you play another session, go to the file it saves to (easiest would be to make a file on the desktop) and open up the one you want. You can then use the "trimmer" on this site and it will trim the info down to only the hands you had money inolved in the pot or you can look throught the entire thing on your comp.
