Default SnG/MTT/Cash and Bankroll Management (from 20$ to 300$)

Not sure if this topic already exist here, but... He're is what a found, from Marthy Smith:

SNG/MTT - start with $1 events (3 SNG for 1 MTT) and build up. If you bust out, start again.
Cash (FL) - start with $20 at the 0.25/0.50 level and build up. If you bust out, start again
Cash (NL) - start with $20 at the 0.05/0.10 level and build up. If you bust out, start again.

At this stage of your training, as your bankroll is growing, adjust your SNG games to develop your experience as follows.

    Step 1 - BR 0 - $100..............only play SnG at 1 table/9 players
    Step 2 - BR $101 - $150........only play SnG at 2 table/18 players
    Step 3 - BR $151 - $200........only play SnG at 3 table/27 players
    Step 4 - BR $201 - $250........only play SnG at 5 table/45 players
    Step 5 - BR $251 - $300........only play SnG at 18 table/180 players

Dont increase the buy-in, but increase the field of players (and the prize pool in same way) once you get a good %ROI in the earlier step.

You want to play MTT? Why not, but only 1 MTT for 3 SnG you played is allowed, to avoid bust out your BR and to be sure you keeping a good %ROI. Cause you building BR now!

Of course you can play cash game too, if you have 300BigBlinds for FL or 450BigBlinds for NL. But just put 20BigBet on table when you begin a new level

Marthy recommand to start at higher level (i dont know why, maybe it was before micro limit. But here, a charts for low BR according to him BR vs BB rules)

Chart for FL: (300BB for 0.01/0.02 is 6$)
    NOTE: 1Bigbet in FL = 2BigBlind

    Level..........MinBR.........MaxBR........20BB.... .......30BB........40BB.........50BB
    0.01/0.02.......6................12...........0.80c...........1.20$ .........1.60$.........2$
    0.02/0.04.....12................18...........1.60$..... ......2.40$........3.20$.........4$
    0.03/0.06.....18................30...........2.40$..... ......3.60$........4.80$.........6$
    0.04/0.08......24...............36...........3.20$..... ......4.80$.........6.40$.........8$
    0.05/0.10.....30................60...........4$........ ........6$.............8$.............10$
    0.10/0.20.....60..............150...........8$......... ......12$...........16$.............20$
    0.25/0.50....150.............300..........20$.......... ....30$...........40$............50$

Chart for NL: (450BB for 0.01/0.02 is 9$)

    Level..........MinBR.........MaxBR.........30BB Buy-in....40BB Buy-in....50BB Buy-in
    0.01/0.02.......9...............22.50..............0.60c........... .....0.80c...............1$
    0.02/0.05.....22.50...........45..................1.50$ ................2$...................2.50$
    0.05/0.10.....45................90..................3$. ....................4$...................5$
    0.10/0.20.....90...............150.................6$.. ...................8$..................10$
    0.25/0.50....225..............450................15$... ...............20$..................25$

Sorry, 20BB is missing in NL chart, but easy to count, if you play Short-stack strategy, put 20BB only!!!

But according to the next chart, at begin, you should spend almost of your time in SnG cause, check this out:

This is a 1 month agenda (200 hours) in % of time for each kind of game, but start only at $300BR as you can see.

    ...............................%.%..%
    $300BR...................50/30/20 for SNG/MTT/Cash (100/60/40 hours)
    $600BR...................45/30/25 for SNG/MTT/Cash (90/60/50 hours)
    $900BR...................40/30/30 for SNG/MTT/Cash (80/60/60 hours)
    $1200BR.................35/30/35 for SNG/MTT/Cash (70/60/70 hours)
    $1500BR.................30/30/40 for SNG/MTT/Cash (60/60/80 hours)
    $1800BR.................25/25/50 for SNG/MTT/Cash (50/50/100 hours)

But at begin, no matter where you build your BR in fact. You need experience and play where and what you're comfortable with.

You asking your self how long it take?

    SNG 1 table event - 1 hour
SNG Multi Table - 2 hours
    SNG 180 player - 3 hours
    MTT 360 player - 4 hours
MTT large event - 5 hours
MTT mega event - 8 hours

Hope it will help few BR builders

Interesting, never heard anyone suggest staying at the $1 level, just upping the field. Not a bad concept I guess. Guess the drawback to that would be paying the high rake forever.

Marthy Smith is a good canadian player, he's not a high stakes players, or high buy-in event (even if he finished 1st at The Irish Poker Open 2007 with €650,000).

But for sure, he have a good sucess online, in med buy-in event and SnG. Winning more than 35 000$/year with OPM (other players money) like he says

He's well known on youtube. He also have few forums.

He tested a lot (for not saying all) of poker software too and gives tips about how to use those on youtube. To find these videos, look for Turtleknife (him FTP nickname) on youtube.

He's a good poker player, and very good teacher imo.

I dont know if i can post that here, but this is him personal youtube link: (I cant post url cause i dont have 10 post on this forum, but he have a lot of video on youtube and you can subscribe to receive the new one when released) A must for all kind of player imo!

Look for him and enjoy it!

BR management is personal. Charts and guidelines are well and good, but it's the concept that is important.

One persons chart is one person's way of making sure his decisions are rational on the poker table. Copying it only makes sense if you have the same attitudes to money he does.

Understand WHY someone has wriiten a chart like that, then write your own.

(For the WHY check the beginners digest, particularly my essay on the dangers of playing underolled *warning it has real maths in it!*)

As I mention in that anyone who doles out BR management advice in the form of a chart is likely to be doing the player he wants to help a disservice
This is not my signature. I just write this at the bottom of every post.
