Skill vs Luck

I thought of an idea to prove how well players play here on the site or just do some research with MTT.

I don't know how to do this exactly but I think we could figure something out. Ok, here's my idea.

Host a MTT for the members of Flop Turn River, play it regularly but remember which seats get what cards (or record the info) and then play the MTT again with different people but keep the same cards and compare the results.

Rinse and Repeat until everyone has played.

Obviously there are some holes in there but what do you guys think?

Having a 'deal pre determined cards' button is not where sites want to be, I think you would have to write your own program or do it by hand somehow. Maybe some of the poker video games let you do this.

Past that it would be interesting but not useful for comparison purposes as each table would be different. And it sounds like a lot of work.

Yeah, I'm just trying to think how I could get this to work/make it worth while. Just to prove that it's more skill than luck. I think we would have to run it hundreds of times in order to get the bare minimum of results.

no one here is going to want to play in a bunch of fake tourneys for any reason. Plus at some point we'd start remembering the hands.

I'm not sure it is 'more' skill than luck, I guess it depends how you look at it. Over time more skillful players will of course do better, but in order to win any MTT you're going to need to be very lucky. Proving that skill helps over the long run will be difficult/impossible if your friend/partner/parents or whoever are not poker players. The best hope is to show them success.
