Default Matrix: TPTK in SB nonsense, limped pot

I'm pretty sure postflop is OK here.

2nd hand, no reads. Anyone wanna raise preflop? Generally I raise with AQ, call with AJ-AT, fold worse offsuit aces in the SB.
In this format, you get 1 survival point for each player you outlast, 2 for each you KO, 2 points for finishing first.

I was prepared to call the BB on the river, but the reraise gave me pause. This flop hits a limping range pretty hard, so even in a normal SnG, I think this is 98, JT, 77 more often than KJ.

Standard fold I guess? I really thought the BB would call so I'd get 1 survival point and still have 30 BBs left.

AJo blows OOP in a multi-way pot, even if you do hit TPTK. not necessarily the right play but i check the flop and hope for a bet and eval based on how many callers there are in this situation (any thoughts?). i know that you're letting KQ and the likes suck out on you sometimes with this play, but are they gonna fold to your bet anyway? putting two bets into the middle w TPTK having no idea where you stand in the hand just doesn't seem +EV to me even with how loose these games are played.
you obviously bet the turn if it gets checked all the way around.

to answer your question, i agree with the fold. you're gonna get a great note on these two players and a thousand chips still gives you plenty of time to make up chips at that table

What is the payout structure of these matrix tourneys? I've never fully understood them.

    1. So fold preflop?

    2. TPTK blows?

    3. If KQo is going to call anyway, we should definitely bet.

I felt that checking the river gave villains a chance to v-bet QJ/KJ/AT whatever. I didn't think I could really bet-fold and bet-calling leaves me in pretty bad shape.

The prize pool is split up 5 ways. There's 1/5th split up 1-2-3 for each table, and the fifth pool goes toward the overall point champion. So if you win all four tables, you will win 4.5 buy-ins.

I think preflop and flop are fine. On the turn, I'm torn between check/calling for pot control (since the board isn't super drawy other than KQ and 98 - I don't give credit to a heart draw) and betting as you did. I am really not sure what is best, in the heat of the moment I would probably lean towards checking.

Definitely check the river. I think that the fact that you act first on the river is actually a really good position to be in because it gives you the chance to see what the others do before you have to make a decision.

I assume you'd fold, too, then. We're actually about 40% against a range of AJ/KJ/QJ/JT/98/77, but with the river action I really doubt TPTK is good more than 10% of the time.

Good point about checking the turn.

Yes, forgot to say that I would fold pretty quick with that action happening after me, MP1 is either a master bluffer or he has TPTK licked.

I am with Tai on this and probably would have checked the turn and either folded or called based on bet sizing. Fold on the river is definitely good here.
Poker is easy, it's winning at poker that's hard.
