    Default I have 3 questons

thanks for taking this time for reading this post i am currently playing turbo sngs on pokerstars and would just like to ask a few questions.

my first question is, is there any particular site you would recommened that shows a good range of turbo/normal sngs mainly as thats basically all i play.

secondly is there any poker book that concentrates more on the sng aspect of online poker and the concepts etc.

my last question is, i currently play at the $3.4 micro limit (i no its a grind gotta start somewhere) i currently only play 9 man turbos and i mate of mine was saying it is more profitbale for me to play the 18 mans, but i still aint convinced hes a good player and all its just that i see it as i have to beat 9 more players for an extra prize place which ofc is resonable but 2nd 3rd and 4th place in the 18 man and exactly the same as the 1st 2nd and 3rd in 9 man.

thanks alot for your time its appricated

    Hi there, welcome to FTR.
Question #1 - you're looking for a site with a wider range of SnGs than Stars? Not sure there is one.
Question #2 - most of the good stuff I've read has been online. spend some time reading the stickies at the top of this forum if you haven't already. most books only devote a chapter to SnGs.
Question #3 - single table games vs. bigger fields depends on the person. personally, my success has been good on single tables (6, 9 or 10 players) and lousy on the bigger fields. I feel this is because I am able to observe everyone at the table the entire game and they've watched me play (the decent players have payed attention), so I have built some image and some reads on the other players that I can exploit later. The payouts for the bigger fields can definitely make them more profitable in the long run, but the swings will be bigger. My suggestion would be to get some games under your belt in the single tables where 1/3 of the people cash and then after you've gotten solid at those, try your hand at the 18's or 45's.

    Hi, welcome to the forums.

you probably don't need to be looking at training sites at the moment if your just starting out. read all the stickies in the sng forum, post some hands/full tourneys for review and read read read and you'll learn pretty quickly the do's and dont's.

Chris Moshmans book on sng's is a great read and I think a must for any sng player.

    good luck

For SNGs you can't beat Stars. FT comes in second and isn't bad if Stars has a server reset.

The best book focused on SNGs is Collin Moshman's Sit N Go Strategy. I'd also read the Harrington on Hold'em series (but particularly volumes 1 and 2), they are very good for tournament play in general. Kill Everyone by Lee Nelson is also a good read, it covers the concept of changing chip values throughout a tournament (a very important concept!) very well.

However, the best way to improve is to post hands/tourneys on this forum and get feedback.

Nothing wrong with playing the $3.40s, we all have to start somewhere! Do try to move up to the $6.50s as soon as your bankroll allows so you're not paying so much rake though.

At the lower levels, it probably doesn't matter whether you play 9- or 18-mans. At the mid to high levels, it probably is more profitable to play 18-mans but I wouldn't worry about that for now.

This is going to be kinda redundant

1.) Pokerstars has the largest player traffic in micro buyin SNG's (and probably higher buyin ones too). Personally I play mostly on Fulltilt.
2.) Collin Moshmann's SNG book has been referred to as 'the bible of SNG's' on one of the bigger forums (although some of the hand examples create a fair bit of discussion). The book will give you a sound grounding in SNG play for sure.
Also, the "Sticky" section at the top of the SNG forum here has some excellent articles in it... actually some of the best I've read online (and I've read tons... I'm kinda addicted to it.... well,..maybe more than 'kinda').
3.) What was question 3 again? Damn.. I forget already. Oh yah.. 9's or 18's, etc. From my own personal experience, whatever one you do choose, stick with it. I think you will do better to specialize in one prior to moving on to another. Also, in similiar micro buyins, (ie. the $3's or $5's) I've noticed the players are generally alot stronger in the 9's. I find it much easier to play on a table where a few of them are good (or a couple good & a couple of them half-decent) compared to a table where there's just too many loose passive & loose uber aggress. donks - - game becomes redonculous. That is my experience with the 18's at low buyin levels. My guess is that alot of the players who are playing the 18's are doing so figuring that they've got a better chance of getting in the Top4 of 18, than the Top3 of 9.
Sticking to thd 9's, you will get familiarized with the very nature of SNG strategy (alot of the weak players in the 18's seem to play them as if they're in a Ring game).
When I first started playing online poker I would jump around from 9's to 90's, back to 18's, over to 45's, then play an MTT & some cash tables, lol. It's okay to play them all, but I think for learning SNG play (& to learn how to win consistently in them) it's far better to specialize,.. and for specializing I'd say 9's are definitely the way to go.
Sidenote - look to the longrun as there'll be times when you're regularly getting it in with the best of it and getting donked out. Be patient and try to place your focus on making correct decisions (and getting your opponents to make wrong ones) over just making money (the money will follow.. in the long term).
Posting HandHistories in a forum & reading over other's posted HH's, along with reading the comments entered by 'winning' players is very helpful.
GL on the tables and I hope you enjoy this forum as much as I have so far.
As far as SNG videos, it'd be cool if more members posted some commentated SNG vids. I'm sure they'd be of great value here to many members.
    GL on the tables!!
