Default Final table $11/180, help, plz!!

    Hi!

Looks like I really need to work on my final table play.
Here I entered the final table as the chip leader, and with quite a bid lead. The result: busted out at 5th.

So can you give me some comments on these hands, please? It's Greatly appreciated.

Hand 69: I'd probably gamble and call here. Unless he has the nut flush draw, you can't be far behind. You could have as many as 14 outs, he could also have a lower flush draw. It's high variance, but you should probably muck preflop if you're going to check-fold. FFS, make a cbet.

Hand 72: I probably just fold preflop. You've been pretty active and are in early position. As played, obviously call.

    Hand 73: Fold preflop.

    Hand 74: Shove preflop.

Hand 75: You've been raising 3xBB with medium pairs, broadways and suited hands...the one hand you have shown was QJo. Now you min-raise with a premium pair? Nothing like broadcasting your hand.

Hand 76: And here's why we keep our raises consistent. Any observant player can figure out when you min-raised you had a monster, and your larger raise is a weak hand.

Hand 77: Back to minraising when we'd be happy to call a shove here.

Hand 78: I'd just fold preflop; you've been awfully aggressive. Are you calling a shove?

Hand 79: This hand is just a trainwreck. Your image is pretty bad at this point, VPIP 5 of past 7 hands. If your image was tighter and breiz were tighter this would be a shove preflop.

Hand 80: You have the loosest player ever in one of the blinds and you raise with J6o?

    Hand 81: Fold preflop.

    Hand 83: Fold preflop.

Hand 84: Having seen you raise 3xBB with vulnerable hands, minraise on a couple of other occasions, show down QJo and J6o as raising hands and shove with K9o, I would put you precisely on AA here. Just raise or shove, you've got a bad image and a pretty loose table. As played, whatever, the money goes in.

Honestly if you enter with the lead you had playing your position is the biggest thing. Get away from hands like k9 k4 k3 j6 because as with the kh9h hand you get a jsjh2h flop you are in trouble up against a very scary board still. With 55 and 99 you are set hunting if you flop nothing bet if called or reraised run. Me myself I will smooth call with ak preflop if im big stack and if you hit you hit if you miss you miss but sometimes I will play it hard just depends on who else is in pot big stack vs. big stack i def play it hard because majority of the time they don't want to loose their stack and you will only get called with sure hands. The JJ hand I believe is a push fold hand I can't stand JJ. Otherwise experience will help you out good luck.

i found myself in the same position as you, being able to reach the final table but not make the big payouts and what helped me was practicing a few 10 man SNGs.

hand 69 - fold pre cos u put urself in crap situations like the 1 u got urself into! as played i call.

hand 70 - fold pre, ur big stack and no need to rush into things.

hand 71 - make a decision dependin on reads, shuv or fold and im more inclined to shuv.

    hand 72 - fold pre u muppet.

    hand 73 - fold pre

hand 74 - call pre, no bluff... that was just silly

hand 75 - minraise O.o just 3 bet like usual

hand 76- fold pre, jk suxxxxxx

    hand 77 - minraaaaaaaaaaaaaise

hand 78 - call and evaluate the flop

hand 79- suicide raise, fold pre

    hand 80 - ditto

    hand 81 - fold pre

    hand 83 - fold pre

hand 84 - i cant shuv fast enough

Well I think we were a little too harsh but it's clear that in many cases here, you were trying to steal with trash without a real plan on what to do on the flop. Try to keep in mind your own image as well as the tendencies of other players.
Playing big pots at small stakes.

No no, thanks a looot for the comments! This was really really good!
It's funny, when I was reading through I realised: yes, this is what I should've done - and it is how I had been playing during the tourney before the final table.
So apparently, I'm suffering from some kind of final table tilt.. maybe it's the fear of busting out too early and not making the big money, or then I'm just afraid of really playing for the big money..

And my image is something I need to work with. Now, when I think of it, a few hands before entering the final table I busted out a short stack by cracking his AA with my KQ - 3xraises pre, Q comes on the flop, he's all-in for maybe 7% of my stack so I call, and runner runner comes two kings
So talk about loose images after that.. gotta keep more in mind the previous hands.

In general: if you play this badly after the flop (no offense but it's true) then there's nothing wrong with tightening up. Good players can get away with playing junk (hands 73, 79, 80, 83) because they can make good decisions when their steal gets called, but if you are going to make poor decisions when called then you probably shouldn't even try to steal the blinds unless you have a solid hand.

69 - if you have a read that this guy always bets when checked to then it's OK to check a flush draw intending to raise all-in when he bets. I think this is close as played.

74 - this is terrible, at small stakes you should almost always re-raise with AK and this certainly isn't the spot to just call with it

78 - I'd just shove over his raise, you have a suited ace in a blind battle with 24 BB

Huh? You want him to open fold 99? I don't think I've ever done that in my LIFE.

None taken. I'm posting this stuff to learn to be a better player, and the advice here is always good

Hand 70: I think it was one of the few hands here that I actually played correctly IMO.

theres not many flops i like with 99 and calling a shuv of 20k or 30k is never going to be better than a coinflip i think.

I would like to play at a table where when I raise, people are never shoving with a hand that's worse than a coinflip against 99. I could raise any two cards and take the pot down 80% of the time. I don't think I've played at a table like that in more than two years.

Unfortunately most people these days are competent enough to play back at you with tons of hands that 99 beats. Or fortunately, if you're lucky enough to actually have 99, I mean I've played entire final tables where I never got a hand as good as 99.

    1) No, we're not folding 99 in this spot.
    2) Actually, there's going to be a whole lot of flops that are good for us, profitable for a cbet, lots we're still ahead on if we're called preflop, and all of those without sets.
    3) There's 5 stacks with roughly 15 bbs or less, and we're snapping if they shove, purely due to math if nothing else.

To the OP, adding on to what mcat said...

You don't need to play remotely LAGgy at these stakes to be profitable. People are calling you insanely light preflop, so tighten up, play position pots more plz. There becomes less of a point to raising with junk when you're A)not proficient postflop and B)people are calling you insanely light.

I think you failed to adjust as it becomes painfully obvious that no one was folding (see the 42o hand for example), so you needed to stop opening so light preflop. If you're going to spew postflop, don't open so light.

Also other things not to do. Don't minraise your huge hands and then 3x your garbage ones. Don't flat call 3x raises with small PP and like 12 bbs behind. If I were you I would contemplate reducing your opening raise sizes to 2.5x preflop for many reasons, including your deficiency in postflop play. It will minimize your losses and keep the postflop pots a bit smaller, as well as yielding a better return on your investment (your raises.)
