    Default help on late game

okay it is easy for me to get pretty far in freeroll tournaments because i am a kind of tight player and play quality hands most of the time like top ten hands or suited connectors, but i also make bluffs here and there and i end up having above average stack usually. but in late game where the blinds are very high and there are few players left the blinds just kill me because i cant get a hand and my stack eventually goes below average and keeps going lower, and when i try to bluff at the wrong time becuase i feel like the blinds are forcing me to make a move. can someone give me some tips on how to avoid this always happening to me when im in this situation?

Read some SNG articles posted in the Poker Articles section here in the forum.
LOTS of information there. Start exploring!

Make your move earlier while you've still got enough chips to threaten with. Plus what Vinland said.

One of the more basic strategies of play are when you get to 10BB or under shove when you decide to make your move. Don't wait and wait, and get blinded out. You are better off going all-in with a decent hand than letting yourself drop below 5BB and if that ever happens, you may as well shove with anything if your opening up.

yezziir, don't feel alone.like vinland said make your moves while the blinds are smaller, but big to build your stack. When early,ante-up with 3-5 5-8 8-9 etc.Lot of chances to catch a straight or a flush if you open up with pockets same suit especially if one of them J-A's.Just because someone raises high doesn't mean they have anything but decent cards and sometimes not even that.Their is alot of information and same situation's discussions in FTR'S site. Good Luck.

You have to look for oppurtunities to steal,.. you can't just wait for cards. Pick out the player you feel will least likely call (ie. a TAG player or Tight/pass. mouse).
If you're not finding oppurtunities to steal blinds, then try to pick off a player you feel is on a steal and then go for a re-steal. A re-steal is way more profitable than a steal, and often more beleivable.
Try not to ever 'call' preflop once blinds are big.. Unless you have a hand that is good enough to raise with, or that you'll feel confident going all the way with after the flop.

    It really is table dependent.

I have this problem in freerolls too. When most of the players are THAT loose...you have to be tight. Bluffing against bad players (like Doyle Brunson said) is not a good idea.
Thats why you can lose a lot of chips trying to steal blinds and bluffing...because they WILL call you.

Once I was in the same situation (in a freeroll with almost 3000 people). After a bad start, I had a good run and improved from 500 chips to 76000 (6th place). Then, i started to receive only bad cards...tried to steal blinds, bluff...nothing.
I was elimined in 25th place around 20.000 chips.
The fact is that in these games, luck becomes more influent than skill. I mean, many terribe players manage once in a while to get good results in big freerolls. That doesnt mean they are skillful players.
