Default Someone tell me I made the right move......

Didnt save the hand so no hand converter so please bare with me.
$.25 MTT on pokerstars around 2k players, currently 7th in position, in the money, about 190 players to go.

Blinds at 1200/2400. Dealt AA under the gun. I just call BB to try and trap. Random player raises to 3x bb, button raises to 16k. I push all in around 64k. Random folds, button calls with AK suited. I was ecstatic about that call as I have him dominated. Flop comes X X J, with one spade. Turn is Q of diamonds. And what do u know. 10 of diamonds on river.

Should I have just called his raise preflop and try to pop him on flop? Or did I make the right move? I obviously wasnt folding. The worst part is the guy has the nerve to text "lol". If this was a live game I would have head butted him. Not for beating me but for being a complete ass. Any thoughts will help. I just don't want to kick myself for the rest of the night. Still lots more poker to be played.

Anytime you get it in this good, thank your lucky stars and fist pump.

Had you simply called the bet and shoved the flop, he could have gotten away from it, which is terrible when he will put his whole stack in down this much.
Playing big pots at small stakes.

I know I know. But results would have been better if I popped him on flop. I do agree with you though. I guess I just got to take the bad with the good. I'll come out ahead next time. And the arrogance of this guy........ Don't get me started lol. Thank you though sir. Needed some reassurance.

    You're being incredibly results-oriented.

The only thing is that sometimes you might just cold-call to keep the random raiser in the hand, but it's likely he's folding anyway.

You didn't say what this guy's stack size was, but let's assume it was 64,000. If he cbets for 1/3 his stack, you shove and he folds 100% of the time. If you shove preflop, he calls and you get his whole stack 87% of the time.

    You do the math.

edit: also, don't take the "lol" so personally. he was probably just embarrassed to get such a lucky suckout. consider turning off chat if this is going to tilt you.

Very true. Its a numbers game. And his stack was a lil over 55k. So it crippled my stack and I went out a few hands later. I wouldn't say it tilted me. I still waited to get the best hand I could before blinding out. It did rile me up a bit tho. I still wished him luck as I left the touney. A gentleman til the end.

You shoved aces preflop knowing you'd almost certainly be called, so where's the question? Sheesh :P
Congratulations, you've won your dick's weight in sweets! Decode the message in the above post to find out how to claim your tic-tac

you played it well, all in with a huge advantage thats good poker.

completely results oriented. you couldn't have done anything different. if you raise UTG the guy with AK is still gonna push or likely re-raise and then you woulda pushed hoping to see QQ KK or AK and be a HUGE favorite. all you can do is cuss back luck... regain your composure and get back to business.
guys he's just looking to complain about taking coolers/beats

he'll continue to be the type of poker player we all love, the one that isn't any good but thinks he is, and slowly donates to the regulars.

Any time you get all of the chips in preflop with AA you will never play it wrong. When you play a hand and you don't lose doesn't mean that you played it right. You always want to maximize the value of your hand.

Also, look at your statement above. That doesn't sound right. If you wait too long you loose fold equity. Make sure that when you are short that you aren't waiting too long for the perfect hand.

I understand what you mean about not waiting to long for that perfect hand. Seeing as most people wont lay down their AX for my "all in" which is less than a BB. But I guess I just phrased it wrong. I went all in with slightly less than 4 BB a couple hands later with A9 suited. I didn't want to "blind out" in this case but there have been instances where I got absolutely crap hands and went all in with less than a BB, won and survived a couple more rounds. Fold equity definitely does have its ups but I guess you just have to pick your hands differently in all situations.

I would invest in a special pair of "future seeing" glasses. Then you'll avoid these annoying losses.
Just dipping my toes back in.

Based on the pf play you made the right move. You'll usually crush here against AK so don't worry about it.

And about those future seeing glasses...where can I get some of those?
  13. #13
How far into the future do they see? I might not want to know........

The glasses see just about far enough to know that it will get worse (you think you're thinking alot about poker now?... that's nothing.. wait til' a few months from now.... or years. There's no going back).
You probably don't want to take a look through the glasses. Poker can be cruel as hell at times. I think it's what makes me want more.. lol.
Forget about the results. You've got AA.. any way you can get as much money into the middle preflop you're doing great!!!!!

LOL. There's no going back..... I love it! You're right, if I could see all the future bad beats right now I'd probably quit poker. Well, I doubt it but you know.... I need glasses that only show the GREAT results. By the way, I had aces cracked by 10 5 suited the other night. The guy was playing his big stack like a bully on the button when my all in was 12 X BB. LOL. Bullies... What are you gonna do?
