    Default Newbie SNGWIZ/SNGPT question

    Hello All!

I have recently begun playing SNGs a little more earnestly. I switched to a pokerroom that offers all the games that I could possibly want. (And I am a slight winner, SS says 2%, at the $6.50s.) And I procured SNGWIZ. After analyzing several dozen turbo tourneys, i am appalled by how many pushes that I miss. You know the ones where WIZ says push ATCs, mostly in late game, and with my stack dwindling to 10BB or less. I believe that this is the major weakness in my game.

My question is: Are we a slave to WIZ's recommendations on these ATC shoves, pushing as it says? Or do we only really push say 80% when when WIZ says ATC? All the while we are taking opponent's reads into consideration. I have a hard time pushing 74o into somone that has me covered, even in th SB.

I look forward to your responses! Thanks.

well what do you mean by "late game"?

on the bubble those atc shoves work on medium stacks, smaller stacks might take a couple broadways as their last stand and bigger stacks that "have you covered" will call with anything that has any potential.

once itm those atc shoves arent as +ev because of the fact that people will call looser

sngwiz is meant to be used along with reads, not as a standalone tool. if anything its just a guide to get you thinking about the game, not a strict "this is the right decision" program. its absolutely not something to be used in place of reads, reads are more important. if you're gut tells you "this dude is just trying to cash and playing very tight on the bubble" then push at him, if it says "this kid is on tilt and might call anything" dont.

By late game, I meant when we have reached the push/fold phase.

It all depends on what the calling ranges of the players still to act are. In many situations it is +EV when you are in the SB to shove ATC into the BB if your stack and/or the BB's stack is 10x BB or less. However, if the BB is a good player who knows you are a good player who would normally shove ATC in this spot and will therefore call very wide, it would be -EV to shove.

The hardest part about using SNG Wiz is getting the ranges right. Do not just accept the default ranges! If you get the ranges wrong, SNG Wiz will spit out a silly answer (ie. garbage in = garbage out).

A silly question from a SG beginner:
How do you define the ranges of your opponents? Based on your notes and observation, on other tools? The sample is too limited isn't it?

Since its crucial for getting rigth answers in SNG Wiz, I wonder how can it be done properly.

If I used SNG Wiz (which i intend to do soon), I would define slightly looser calling ranges in order to avoid trouble shoving bad cards in wrong situations. Is that correct?
