Default Premium PPs - Overcard hits the board

    Hand 1

Round 1 - 16 hands played. Villain is 64/7. I had lost a hand to him before where I raised AKo pre-flop, he called and raised my flop bet x4 on a 5s6s7d flop. He'd then called another couple of raises pre-flop and folded to a bet on the flop. I was 20/5.

I usually bet more as a proportion of the pot on the turn than on the flop. Is this the wrong way round?

Often a continuation bet works on the flop, but I have seen other posts here that suggest checking in this situation. When he checked the turn, I thought he did not have the ace. Should I have checked the river or bet more?

Hand 1: Since villain is playing a very wide range he could easily have the ace. These players like to play ace rags and are not intimidated by a large bet. I think he has us beat, fold.

Hand 2: Isn't your betsize a little too small PF? You are betting 4bb with 4 limpers. I would bet something like t700 here. My flop bet is slightly larger too. After the flop it's hard to tell we're beat or not. turn check is fine by me, riverbet is too small. I'd prefer checking on the river too. As played, fold.

Yes, betting more on the turn is weird. I wouldn't say it's always wrong but it should probably not be your default. It also makes double barreling much more expensive.

    1) I would be HPS on turn, then c/c river. As played it's close but I would fold

    2) pre flop I would make it 500 or 600

flop bet is OK. You can get value from FDs and 9x/PPs and you avoid getting outplayed later.

river bet is very thin, if he was on a draw he can't call (and you don't want him to raise) and he probably won't call much with hands we beat. In addition, while the small bet helps him call with 9x types, it looks weak and may encourage a bluff that again you can't call.

For sure you must fold now, your choices here are b/f, c/c, and c/f.

Thanks for the replies and sound advice. In the first hand I did call and he had A3o. I should have folded anyway, but it would have been an easier fold if I had bet less on the turn.

In hand 2 he had 5h2h. Thats the problem I have with KK when an Ace hits the flop, because its difficult to play the hand aggressively and then ppl can draw out on you. Betting bigger PF might help eliminate hands like that and I hadn't thought of that before.

as per the QQ after he just called on the flop I would have shoved on the turn. Guessing the turn probably has not helped him. I would have put him on a pair of jacks at best. SO on the turn I push... make them PAY to see the river. Even if they call and get lucky, it's the right move if you ask me.

Pretty much the same thing with KK hand... after he just calls the flop he more than likely has a really weak Ace at BEST, I mean.. even donks fold A4 sometimes when the pressures on. ;D
