    Default beginner tourney questions

    Heya,
I've noticed that there are a ton of forum posts about beginning microstakes NLHE cash games. Most of the beginner's section is about those.

What about some good advice on how to start and grind out low level mtts? Specifically, I will mostly be playing $2.20 and below buy ins on stars. Because of the lower buy ins there are less experienced players and more donks so what strategy should I employ.

I've read soupie's MTT strategy guide and it is great but I'm wondering what adjustments should be made for lower levels. What about the stars 180 $4.40 sngs? They look fun but I've heard the level of play is higher at those, is that true?

    Thanks - Candy

read hoh 1/2, stickies here and in SNG forum.

play tight and value bet until you see a reason not to

try and release the idea that each $ level is something new you have to learn. Anyone who gives you an adjustment from 2 to 4 dollars imo is just making stuff up to post it on a forum. As you move up players become more aware but it's not even close to cut and dry so why worry about it.

FWIW I can't think of anything harder than building a roll with low BI MTTs, I would go with cash or SNGs instead. If you're just funning around that's cool.

I can definatley recommend the Harrington on Hold'em books. Improved my game a lot.

I think the Stars $4 180 tourneys are the softest tourneys I've ever seen. Closely followed by the Stars $10 180 tourneys.
Playing big pots at small stakes.

I like this post. There's 2 reasons why I wouldn't recommend a beginner to "grind out" MTTs.

-The small buyin MTTs just have such a huge number of entrants, you're more than likely to go busto before you ever make a final table.

-Learning to play cash games teaches you what to do in the early stages of a MTT, and learning to play SNGs teaches you what to do when your stack gets short. I'd recommend playing a little of both before you start to take MTTs seriously.

Very Nice, I appreciate all the responses and good advice. I actually have the Harrington v.1 book around here somewhere. So I will try to get it down and study it while I build up some w/ cash and sngs.

    Thanks - Candy
