don't play them until you are properly bank rolled.

I would use ~4 rebuys + 1 add-on as the requirement for rebuy mtt's. So if you're rolled for $25 tourneys, you can play $5 rebuy tourneys - so around $1250+ sounds about right.
I like to have between 50 and 100 buy-ins for MTT's - but I'm not playing much... I guess for some of the guys that play regular have even more.
You can go long between cashes, so this is not unreasonable.

You really want to take some risks early on - and hopefully get other people to rebuy as well... The players on the tables with the most rebuys will have a siginificant advantage.
I sometimes quit live rebuy tourneys right after the first BI if it becomes apparent that almost everyone is playing over their head and not going to gambol a lot in the rebuy phase - because you really want to go into the break with a good stack.

Wait, am I just plain stupid to be playing with 200 buy-ins? I can get money back on the site, but I treat it as if I can't because it would be difficult.

200 BIs is conservative but it also means you shouldn't go busto.

100 BIs is riskier but is fine for recreational players, players who can reload, or players who are not regularly withdrawing from their roll and really will move down in levels if variance rears its ugly head.

I think he means playing 5 rebuys on a

    200 x $5 = 1k roll rather than Mcat's

    400 * $5 = 2k roll suggestion.

it's still a buy in, the only difference is you do it in stages. It is not possible IMO to play a rebuy well without expecting 2 double RBs plus AO so if you don't have 500+ BIs total I would pass. Also people are often giving away chips that first hour so not being OK with occasionally dumping ~10 BIs also sucks and shaves some of your edge. Even more true in the low BIs since the gambling goes down quite a bit on most tables 20+.

If you want to play with 100 total BIs or 200 it's more your choice and dependent on the stuff char said. If you want to play these because the BI is kinda like a 10 FO why not play 20 or 30 FOs on the same 1k roll? Whatever your average BI for the 5 RB is I know for sure it isn't 10$ so yes, you're being 'plain stupid' assuming the goal is long term roll maximization.

I just treat all rebuys as 5-6x the buyin. So I would treat a $5 rebuy the same as a $25-30 FO.

If you never ever want to go bust you should prolly have a 5-6k roll to play this.

More risky but still not crazy would be 2-3k.

Who cares about the roll, I play for fun, I can always rerload, would be $25+.

yeah 100 buyins is standard for tourneys. i was thinking 20 buy ins which is standard-ish for ring.

Is there a good way to track your return on investment? Does anyone know where I can find a good spreadsheet?
