Default 88 vs. all in on KK5 flop, 3rd hand of $11 2 table SnG

3rd hand from a 2 table SnG I played last night.

    Full Tilt No-Limit Hold'em, 10+1 Tournament, 15/30 Blinds (9 handed) - Full-Tilt Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    CO (t1590)
    Button (t1440)
    Hero (SB) (t1620)
    BB (t1470)
    UTG (t1500)
    UTG+1 (t1500)
    MP1 (t1410)
    MP2 (t1500)
    MP3 (t1470)

    Hero's M: 36.00

Preflop: Hero is SB with 8, 8
    2 folds, MP1 bets t105, 1 fold, MP3 calls t105, 2 folds, Hero raises to t320, 1 fold, MP1 calls t215, 1 fold

    Flop: (t775) K, 5, K (2 players)
    Hero checks, MP1 bets t1090 (All-In), Hero ???

My plan was to check-raise the flop, but the all in derailed that strategy. I was thinking he would probably bet smaller if he had a big hand like 3 kings or 5's full, but I still wasn't that sure my 8's were the best hand. Any thoughts on how I should have played this?

I wouldn't 3-bet preflop, I'd just flat call and play for set value, particularly with the additional cold caller in front.

As played, that's a difficult spot. My usual hypothesis is that a big overbet like this is often a draw or some other weak hand that doesn't want a call. Unfortunately there aren't any draws on this board, so you're hoping he has a weak hand like A5, 66-77, a missed AQ or AJ or something similar.
