no real reads early on...no HUd or anything, im just assuming my 3 bet was too much? should i have 3 bet less than folded or should i just take the flop?

Nah, the 3bet is fine. I typically make it around 4x when oop. My decision to call his 4bet or to even 3bet in the first place would be based on the reads that I had on him. Some reads would tell me to fold to his 4bet. But, more than likely early in a $11 tournament you are ahead in these spots. I would purchase a HUD program if I were you.

I don't hate the 3 bet at all, but with no antes I think it is actually a fold to his jam. You are getting like 3:2 to call here which means you need 40% equity to call here, and I don't know if you have that.

in this spot & stack size I like it, if he happens to call you could shove the flop or bet like 850 depending on texture

    Am I missing something?

This is a 50 BB stack vs our 100 BB stack and we are happy to be getting it all in preflop w/AJo when there are no antes?

This scenario is a lot different from like a 20 BB stack when antes are involved or if we have a good read - but that's not where we are at here.

if he's any looser than ~5% we have the price.

do you play this tourney? I think you're giving average 30k player too much credit. Like I said, I would rather just take flop because I think he'll play worse there but I'm totally OK playing for his stack

also calling has to be better than 3 bet folding i think unless you just suck at poker. We could 3 bet fold J7s instead

thanks a ton for the input, i guess your right, i think best wouldve been to just take a flop...

Not to split hairs, but he has to be looser than 8% to make calling correct (we're 39.5% against the top 8.3% of hands, 88+, AJ+, KTs+). With stacks this deep, I don't see many opponents 4bet shoving with AJo, KTs, 88 often enough to make up that extra 3% of hands.

The 3bet size is fine IMO, but I fold to the all in. I probably flat this most of the time without a read.
Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

what is the goal of 3 bet folding? you think he folds better? I think with his stack size it's a perfect spot for him to shove all his PPs, and again a lot of those hands we outplay on the flop.

I'm never making a close fold assuming I have a better than +-5% range read BU vs BB

shit, I just noticed that we were the BB. I was looking through this thread think wtf are you all thinking?! I take a flop. If he's loose, I like your 3bet/size. I don't know about calling the 4bet though...

3 betting here is strange. Versus an average players continuing range against 3 bets- our hand has little Equity.

Since when was AJ da nuts? Id rather just flat and hope to catch a flop, but often I fold here.

something ive realized is i deifnitely tend to over shove over people and will rarely give them credit for hands, which i can easily work on, thanks for revealing the massive leak lol

I am bad at multiquoting, but in response to the good dr:

I don't play this tourney anymore so I guess it is possible that the average player is 4 bet shoving AT- here so if that's the case, I stand corrected.

I also agree that my standard line is to flatcall pre.

I also agree that 3-bet/folding is turning our hand into a bluff against players who will only fold or shove in response to our 3-bet. But against bad players who will call and then fold to our c-bet postflop this play retains value.
