She's quitting as governor so she can run for top office in 2012.

    she's popular
    people love to hate her
expect tina fey's popularity to mirror sarah's

If the GOP is smart they will do what they can to make sure that Palin gets the nomination in 2012, then watch the fundie evangelicals lose power of the party as they get their asses handed to them in the general. This would allow them to hit hard in 2016 similar to how they did in 2000. Nobody wants to run against Obama (or an incumbent for that matter) unless the economy is still in the shitter, but even then, I suspect that fewer people would want to run since 100% of people would be completely lost for how to fix things by that time.

I really is too bad she is stepping down.

You know that old saying "why do I need enemies when I have friends like this?"

She was a serious friend to the republicans.
The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than average. This bias is attributed to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their mistakes

She's not getting out of politics.

Her not running for another term is l.do since running a campaign as a governor (especially of a state thousands of miles away from where she needs to be) is very hard. If she has any eye set on the national stage no way in hell she would run again.

Stepping down now is also fine because 1) it's Palin and she thinks weird, 2) it's the religious right she needs (has) in her corner and they employ such great degress of cognitive dissonance and selective bias that they won't remember she stepped down, and 3) she is cooped up in Alaska even now. She dearly desires the center stage and national attention, yet it's virtually impossible to have those when in Alaska. Even behind the scenes stuff is tough when so far away from everything

Or she is getting a spot on clusterFOX like Huckabee or something. Or she's gonna run for Senator which would be just weird

All reason points towards her being the lead candidate in 2012 though, so this would have to be some crazy curve ball coming for that to not happen.

In all your infinite wisdom you have yet to figure out how to circumvent the ldo filter?

I laugh at your puny mind.

I am thinking the same thing. Who would want someone in the Highest office that can't even finish out a lower office term.
I would hope people wouldn't vote for her, but I doubt she has a very good chance at beating Obama, ATM anyway.

I bet there's a money reason behind it - like some TV political pundit gig that pays 3x as much with a third as many hours to work each week. Stay in limelight, profit.

I don't see why this people think that quitting is odd in any way... she has nothing to gain by remaining the governor of Alaska. She has the benefit of that experience under her belt, so on her political resume, she'll always be able to say... "I was governor, I know what executive power is like!" why stick it out for 2 more years... what she need is the 100s of speaking engagements in the lower 48 states to prop herself up more for 2012. She likely needs money (which will easily be garnered via speaking engagements) to hire an army of PR people to work on building her up as a legitimate candidate. (e.g., how to stay down-home-sy without coming off like someone who seems largely unaware of many of our country's problems and the basic facts that surround them.)

It makes complete sense to me...
So you click their picture and then you get their money?

l.do is easier to do than anything else, and saves my energy for things that actually matter. It is indeed your mind which is the puny one
