    Default BOP hand vs. Octavian_C

Don't know too much about him but I think I've seen him playing higher stakes MTT's and nosebleed SNG's.

We've just been flipping stacks back and forth, neither of us can get rid of the other it seems like. This is about 3 hands after I lose my AQ to AJ AIPF.
He's been playing somewhat tight oop since we got HU but did show down QJ one hand he flatted out of the BB
He's raised about 1/3 of my cbets and hasn't been overly stabby when I check the flop through

I figured he's check shipping a decent portion of his range on this flop so I checked it back with back door draws and overs.

I'm getting decent direct odds to call but it's for ~1/5 of my stack and I think a shove based on my equity is certainly +EV even though I don't expect him to be insanely light here.

    Thoughts on turn play?

Shoving>calling...but what did you do on the turn?

I would usually bet the flop

    I don't see where

I don't expect him to be insanely light here.
comes from, he's just taking a stab, you have outs if not, shove.

I really just wanted to make sure this is a super standard shove and not an "AWWW man you were getting 3:1 with little or no fold equity on a shove, you should have just called" spot.

Shove preflop because you probably aren't good enough to know what to do if you make this small raise and get action. Against players better than you, you'd best keep it simple to minimize their edge.

    As played shove.

Shoving pre seems a little much with 14BB's, but I've never won the Nightly 100K so I'll take your advice

it really is quite standard in this spot, especially for the reasons mcat provided.

14bb stack isn't deep. In addition, antes have also shortened your stack. Due to the antes, there is more of a reward if you shove and he folds making this a +EV shove spot. However, regardless if there are antes, a <15bb stack can be shoved wide when HU since there are less people to make fold and the odds of villain having a hand that can call have gone down. If you are called, JTs plays really well against the hands that will call.
