    Default How to Study SnGs?

What helps you guys the most in terms of finding leaks and studying where to improve?

I would specifically like to know how you guys use Sit and Go Wizard to review push/fold. I just look at my hands one by one but I never feel like I learn; I just look at what I should have done but don't really remember it afterwards...

    Thanks

Look at the SNG Wiz section in the FAQs, I think I linked to some posts where I described the way to get the best out of SNG Wiz. In summary:

    - Don't just look at the default ranges that Wiz uses, see whether +EV or -EV and move on. Play with opps' ranges to see what range they would need to be on to make a good shove bad or vice versa.

    - Having determined suitable call ranges for opps, then change your hole cards. Is this a spot where you can profitably shove ATC? If it's a bad shove, what's the hand range that makes for a good shove?

    - Change stack sizes around. Does a good shove/call become bad if there's a very short stack around?

I have a question. how do you guys organise your study time? do you finish a tourney, or a set of tourneys, then spend time at the end of a session reviewing your hands or do you, say, set a few hours a side per week/month and do all your studying then?

I think I'm going to set a timetable for playing and studying and follow it religiously every week!!

    ideas?

As Taipan said, be sure to adjust ranges for your villains so you know how to adjust to different spots accordingly in the future.

Random Hero- If you are serious about your sng, putting in study time shouldn't really be much of an issue, it should just be habit. For a low stakes guy, you need to balance you study time between whiz and just studying your hh in a replayer in general. One of the best things you can do is hook up with another solid player in your game/stake and exchange hhs to do reviews on them. Everyone has a different style and you'll no doubt learn from eachother.

As for my own study habits, I usually review a few games after each session. Another habit you should practice is keeping notepad open when you play so you can copy and paste hands into that to review later.

For me studying is a very organic process. I don't have set hours. I tend to do simple things like review HH's for friends, thinking about ways to improve my effieciency etc.

I also tend to read and re-read poker books before I go to bed. I think it helps to have this information right at the front of your mind before you go to sleep, giving your brain time to absorb and process the information. By now I must have read Sklansky and Miller NLHE book 7 or 8 times, but apparently I'm a bit cash-retarded. I frequently read and reread Kill Everyone and Colin Moshman's SnG book.

I'm getting more into Wiz now, but unbelievably I don't actually own a copy. When I get some free time later I'm going to mess around with the trial version and calling and pushing ranges for double or nothings. Often I think you can ignore the ICM in favour of other variables, but it's still useful to know what ICM says.

As for a schedule, I've just set myself one. After breakfast I'll hit the DON on PS from 9am and play 3 sets. At 12pm Happy Hour on FT begins, and if I get the timing right, I can fit in 3 sets of SNGs before Happy Hour ends, maximising the FT points I earn while working towards Iron Man status. I have a little bit of time free after 3pm, so I'll hit the cash tables to earn this month's $50 FT Take2 bonus. In the evening I'll do a bit reviewing and hopefully some writing (on DONs). Late at night I'll hit the PS tables for a session or two of DONs (I'm having trouble connecting in the middle part of the day) and work a bit further towards clearing the bonus I have there.

    thanks for the replys guys...

I think im gonna set myself a weekly schedule and work on that. certain times for playing and certain times for studying. I;d love to swap HH's with someone of similar skill and who play at similar stakes. anyone fancy it gimme a shout
