Default How long do you stay tight at a mmt?

Is there a rule of thumb on how big the mmt is and how long you should wait for fish to leave? I usualy wait till around half or about an hour into the game and i do decently. I was wondering if anyone had better judgment about this.
I would rather play strategy over luck in any game, so even if i lose i feel good that i made the right choice. Losing luck over strategy and you just feel like a fool and thats how objects around you get broken.

play your table and not a pre determined strategy. If people are playing tight pre and on the flop steal and c bet a lot. If not, value bet a lot. As a general poker hint, if people give you rules of thumb they probably suck.

Why would you wan to wait until the fish leave? It's easier to take their chips than a good player.

I agree. There are a lot of easy chips to be had early in a tourney. If you are too tight, you lose out on the feeding frenzy.

Only problem is in the early stages the blinds are not worth stealing....but generally speaking agree with the above.

True, Stealing blinds early on isn't going to add much in itself, it is just one of many factors in building your stack. To increase the chances of making the final table, and make the big money, you must push all the edges you have against the competition.

I think about it this way. Having 100 more chips from blind stealing can have a multiplying effect whenever you double up through an equal or greater stack. Those extra chips go from 100 to 200, 200 to 400, 400 to 800, etc.

IMO playing tight early opens you up to really difficult spots. In the first level id like to have 89 suited in the cutoff over jacks utg+3 or something. In the first level you see tons of bad players stacking off 80bb deep with tptk or overpairs. You don't want to be that guy. Rail 10 tournaments and note all the really big pots that go to showdown and you will see that its usually like QQ vs 76 for example and 76 usually wins because 76 shows down when it makes two pair or a straight.

Thats just my understanding of it.

In response to the bottom part; I think differently. I don't think that i'll be getting my stack in 3 times in relative sucession. So that 100 blind stolen, by the time you are all in and double a few times; nets you about 2bb if the blinds are up to 400. What is more important is keeping away from the 9-10bb range by stealing a couple blinds in good spots. Especially with antes in play, and keeping the raise size down (i do 2.25x againts really weak opponents; and if opponents inbetween aren't sophisticated enough to see what im doing) you can avoid pushing in marginal hands when your stack is down and its the correct move. I like to think stealing a few blinds keeps me from those spots where i need to shove; giving me more time and thus more hands to evaluate shoving with. Hopefully better hands or better spots.

Play the combination of tight and aggressive. Play tight if your card is low or median but if you have monster hand, be aggressive by raising, re-raising or go all in. Good luck and see you at the tables.
