Completely card dead?

    Default Completely card dead?

Was playing a SNG yesterday and was beyond card dead. K2s mid position would be one of my best hands.

Anyway just thought I'd pick on a few tight big blinds and make a few late position steals just to keep my head above water.

Obviously not. Lost of action going on around me and I couldn't get a look in.

Anyway got pretty low but a few orbits went round and I managed to win a few blinds by shoving with suited broadway cards and mid pairs. But was still hovering around 600-800 and kept getting my blinds raised with nothing to defend with (can't re-shove as no fold equity)

Then eventually shoved again on the button with A10 ran into AJ wich held and I was out.

Is there anything you can do in games like this? Or just take it on the chin? It happened a few times yesterday and the times I did manage to fight back and survive I was just bubbling and also got knocked out with QQ by JJ just to rub it in.

I guess my question is is there another way to accumulate chips when being this card dead? Pure bluffing? Even though if I get looked up I'm out without a suck out... Or re stealing a raise all in with nothing?

In that case there's nothing you can do but wait for an +EV spot (and they always come, even if it's calling an AI with crap in the BB because you've got half your stack in the BB already). The fact that you picked up AT on the button which sounds like a very clear +EV shove illustrates this point (the fact that somebody woke up with a better hand and you didn't suck out is irrelevant).

Maybe post the whole trimmed tourney so we can see if you missed any shove spots?

To be honest it was a while ago it was just I posted it on another forum which isn't as busy or as good as this so wanted a bit more input so just copied and pasted it.

Yeah I agree there is always a +EV spot. It's just frustrating when you have a pushing hand but some1 beats you to it. Re-steals seem to be the most effective - especially when people realise that you have barely played any hands..

Yes, I agree about re-steals - but you need to pick your marks carefully (ie. players who will aggressively open raise but fold to a re-raise/shove). No good will come of trying to resteal from calling stations! Stack sizes are also very important - if the initial raiser is getting big pot odds to call your shove that's no good either.

There are days like the one you describe, in those days the critical thing is finding the correct points to make your moves and to not be afraid to put in all your chips for a steal while you still have some FE

Interesting post, I usually don't think about this kind of thing much anymore, but I actually was in a SNG just a few mins ago that was running this way. Pathetic cards and not crazy action, but a pretty active table. It's a 10 player turbo and I have not seen one flop and we're about 25 hands in (in a turbo that's sick right?) Well I pick up KTs in mp, utg does a 2xbb raise and I say to myself "Let's see if these guys notice I haven't played a hand yet" - I raise, they all fold.
My point is - I would normally not pull a move like that with KTs in mp with the biggest stack at the table sitting on the button and an utg raise (even if it's a weak raise). But I felt like my image had to be squeaky tight to even the densest of observers and KTs is at least a hand that has potential and should be easy to play post-flop.
So, my two cents would be to look for a situation that you can use. Sure I coulda got screwed on that hand 6 different ways, but that might have been the best opportunity I had for the next 2 orbits.
Turns out that gave me enough chips to sit around a little longer and reconfirm my squeaky tight image before time came to start stealing like a klepto.

It is interesting because poor players really don't pay attention to you being tight and literally only think about the cards in front of them.

So if you have been tight all game and re-raise them (your cards are irrelevant) they are not going to fold A10 ever.

So it is tough. As mentioned u need to attack the right stacks at the right time and hope there isn't a raise before u. Not easy.

I'll never get blinded out but it just sucks when u have to click call or go all in with total rags....
