Any Strategies to Avoid This?

Hello all. I've learned a lot from these forums so thanks very much.

Just played this hand in the 3.30 (R+A) on Stars near the bubble. I'm not sure if there was anything I could do here but I wanted to check.

Villain was very loose and I'd been beating up on him with re-raises so I had reason to expect he was betting either Ace-low kicker or even tilting his stack off with KK or QQ. Perhaps I could have raised pre-flop, but with such a wide range it seemed to be an exceedingly profitable move to get him to fire again.

I think I might re-raise pre to try and get the pot heads up (and get position) and also to try and avoid some1 behind coming over the top of both of you which would put u in a tough spot and out of position should you decide to call.

Anyway as played I think I'd have raised the flop firstly to get Ravax out of the way and again to get position on PENAL - but also to try and determine if he has AK (he did raise UTG) and he probably would have folded (I'd be happy with that)

By flat calling you don't really know where you are.

When the turn comes and he leads again I'd be worried. That's why I think you've left your re-raise a little late. Although I have to admit it would seem that you are only behind to AK as I can't see pocket 8s raising UTG into a full table (well I wouldn't) and splitting against AQ.

As it worked out he was an idiot that raised UTG with A8 which you can do nothing about.

Having said all this I'd have played it as you did with low blinds but with blinds this big every pot is worth winning so if he folds to a flop raise then that's ok.

1) Use hand converter tool. Ive also made the mistake of of posting without converting. Youre not likely to get much feedback without it. Go to poker tools.

2) 3bet pre 2.5x to 3x

3) If he does call pre, he's not likely to lead out at flop. He's likely to check and you can control the pot. If he does lead out, raise. If you get another call, proceed with caution.

4) Youre around 30bb. No reason to risk tourney just because you hit TPGK at flop.

this is what i call a oh well hand. With your read being loose aggressive when you call this preflop i think you should be trying to get it in by the river when you hit top pair queen kicker. if he some how got there or happens to wake up with a monster oh well.
