    Default Operation Grind 7500 FPPs!

Hey all, it has been a few months. Let me catch you up to speed.

After taking my shots at $50NL and doing okay, I cashed out 1200 (putting me down to about $330 left in my account) and bought a car (with my other savings). I bought a 2007 black Hyundai Elantra with about 12,500 miles on it for $10,000 (pictured below).

Since then I've been working about 40 hours a week at a measly $8.76 an hour stocking shelves at my local grocery store until I go back to school at the end of August. And I have found me a special lady

I decided to start playing again with my $330 bankroll. And have made some decent money playing various games...SnG's, Double or Nothins, and some $10NL. I've worked the bankroll up to $447 over the past few weeks.

    Operation Double or Nothin'

Goal: Play 10 $10 DoN's a day for the next two weeks at a 65% win percentage.

Boring? Yes, but also a challenge, and I like a challenge.

I was running much better at these before I started keeping track. But I think I can turn it back around and get it to 65%...we'll see.

Congrats on getting the car man.

Good luck in them DON's, maybe you'll catch me around the tables since I'll be grinding the $10's a bit (turbo or regular?)

Turbos. I hope I don't see you at the tables, make my life a little bit harder . There are a lot of donks playing in the $10's.

I feel like the turbos are pretty easy (and cheaper). Just use position and be aggressive and people are very cautious when it's down to 6-7 people with 150/300 or 200/400 blinds.
  4. #4
haha yeah, that would just crush both of our ROI's.

I found my ROI to be higher (over a short sample) in turbo's. Rake is cut in half so that definately helps.
  5. #5
Hmmm....Turbo DONs= less rake, higher hourly. Normal=.....how 'bout them turbos!
    Ich grolle nicht...

Decided 5 at a time is for losers. Bumped it up to 8 and now 10 tabling at a time and it's still pretty easy. Going to stick it out at this number for a little while. But I might try out 12 sometime. I'm a little behind pace on the percentages (probably won't make it, but I can shoot 4 it!) and also with games played. But if I just put in two sessions one of these days I'll get there easily.

Well, I kinda bailed on the DoN project. And started playing some multi-table tournaments.

    Started off...BAD

Played in a $22 tournament, a $17 turbo and a handful of $11 tournaments. So thats about $90 in the whole.

I then tried out the $4.40 180 man tourneys. I've played a total of 12 of these. One four table session each of the last three days. I finished ITM twice, 14th and 17th. Busted out AA vs QQ in one blahblah...Anyways TODAY:

okerStars Tournament #181862523, No Limit Hold'em
    Buy-In: $4.00/$0.40
    180 players
    Total Prize Pool: $720.00
    Tournament started 2009/07/24 14:28:45 ET

    Dear CBat28,

You finished the tournament in 2nd place. A USD 144.00 award has been credited to your Real Money account.

    WOOHOO!

I'm going to play these some more and also do some of the big $11 guaranteed tourneys.

Yea I gotchya. I only have about 40 buy-ins for the $11 tournaments. But I only play about 1 a day, while playing a few $4.40s a day will keep me afloat until then. Also if/once I hit a real dry spell, I'll go back to grinding some DoN's at $5 if I have to.
  10. #10
Well...I played very under rolled for $25 NL and had almost all of my money on the tables last night.

+4 buy-ins w00t. I was going to attempt for silverstar, but I'm heading out of town at 2pm and won't be able to play. I'm about 350VPP away, so that means about ~3 hours...which is time I don't have right now.
  11. #11
solid, how about them juicy tables last night? I think I saw you at a few of mine lol
  12. #12
Haha yea, the tables were very juicy that night.

I just deposited $600 more onto pokerstars to get the 50% bonus.

My bankroll is now $1082. With my friend owing me $250, not sure how he will pay me back, whether cash or pokerstars.

I'm going to be grinding out $25NL for a few days and then possibly move up to $50NL to take a little shot and help clear my bonus. I need 7500 VPPs.

You keep using that word "grinding." I don't think it means what you think it means.

Did I ask for your criticism? Do you have anything productive to add?

You say that I "keep using the word grinding" yet you have quoted it once.

I have a $1500 bankroll and I am 8 tabling $50NL...sounds like a grind to me. I have cashed out $500 so far, so I am up about $1100 this summer in online poker. When I go to Turning Stone and bring some cash that I have on me obviously that is not part of my grind, but the games their are much easier than the games online.

Thanks for filling my OP with random bullshit everyone.
  24. #24
I don't see how people talking about bankroll management or hands that were misplayed are filling your OP with random bullshit. Those are the types of constructive comments you should expect on a poker strategy forum. Random bullshit would be like saying you shouldn't spend 10K on a car when you have a job that pays $9 an hour, but no one said that because (even though it's probably true) we don't really know your situation and it's not our place anyway.

Damn I wish the FTR elite would comment in my blog so I could take their information and attempt to use it the best I could, knowing that their intention, while possibly being inappropriately demonstrated, is to make a point that would allow me to grow tremendously as a poker player.

    CBAT:

Don't take things personally man. Sometimes people may sound as if they're coming off the wrong way when they reply to a HH you posted etc, but they're just trying to point you in the right direction. I admit there was a time where I posted a hand and it got flamed really bad, and I was a bit insulted at first. But then I realized that everyone was flaming me to get me to wake up and think about how bad my thought process was. This motivated me to try and figure out where I went wrong, even if it meant I had to make a few more mistakes in the process.

mcatdog came in here to try and keep you on track it seems. He's basically wanting to make sure you're really following bankroll management as it is apparent he had some suspicions you weren't due to some of the things you've mentioned in this thread that he quoted. So what he's really looking for is confirmation that you're not playing out of your roll/above your means. Regardless of how easy a game may be, variance still exists, and shit will happen. While the picture may have been uncessary, I would just ignore it and look at it as the price you pay to be able to have some of the top earners on FTR give you advice. Let it just be a reminder that the most important thing any of us can master is bankroll management, so don't take it for granted. Since I believe mcatdog plays poker for a living, he is likely to have his outlook on life very much linked to poker and his poker income, thus when he questioned whether you should have a car or not, it was likely merely due to his thought process of 'needing the bankroll' to support a car. He did however comment that he is unaware of your financial sitatution. Though in the eyes of a professional poker player, a $1500 bankroll cannot support a $10000 asset. I am sure that you have taken care of this yourself though and it isn't an issue, nor is it anyone elses business.

Instant Aces definately has a good understanding of the game, and it's unfortunate he didn't give you any concrete advice on the hand you posted - HOWEVER, I think what he did do that is argueably contrstuctive (as silly as it may sound) since he's now made you open your eyes to the play and gotten you to think on why the hand was played so bad. Not everyone will spoonfeed answers, so having someone tell you something is played really bad shouldn't be taken for granted. Despite the fact his comment seems a bit out of line, this should ring a bell in your head that something about that hand went VERY wrong. So all you can do now is think about each street and your reasoning behind each action. I suggest you post your thoughts for each street and the reasoning behind each action. Then you will get some addional feedback and really find out what's up.

Definately come by the IRC more often, there's often good poker discussion going on posting hands in real time can be more efficient. All in all, don't let this little mess in your OP bother you. Let's get back to things being productive, I would suggest discussing the hand now and letting us know what was going through your head on each street. That way we can get this operation back on track and have you improve/study/play/move up etc.

Wow...reading back on this, I was ignorant! Sorry for acting like a child.

Anyways, I'm back to clearing that $300 bonus. Got about $750 in the broll and need about 2200 more VPPs to clear it. Just been grinding out 8-10 tables $25NL. This past semester was hell and I gave up poker for 3 months between work, school work and girlfriend I had very little time.

    I'll update more thoroughly tomorrow.
