    Default Shallow tournament strategy

Hi Guys - first post in this forum since I mainly play cash games but there is a tournament that runs in the students union that I've been going to for a while and I'd like some general advice concerning the structure of it.

Basically the field is usually 70-100 people - mostly fish and first time players. You choose which table you sit on so finding a decent table isn't hard.

    Starting stack is 2000 chips with initial blinds of 25/50 - blinds increase every 25 minutes in the order 25/50 - 50/100 - 75/150 - 100/200 - 150/300 - 200/400 - 300/600 - 400/800, by that time unless you have one of the biggest stacks it's push/fold poker. 6 max tables btw.

It's more the initial stages that interest me, I've generally been playing a very tight game and attempting to steal on the button if the blinds aren't calling stations. Generally I end up dwindling away and have to start playing push/fold too early.

Thoughts on the optimal strategy for this tournament?

well, it is worth it to steal right away, but assuming they are a bunch of stations your strategy would be:

    make hands
    get paid
usually go broke shoving 6 BBs UTG
luckbox big stack at FT and then dominate

I participated in such a tournament last year. The blinds increase very fast so don't expect to play your game. You just have to gamble. They are so afraid to be all in. One guy had flopped trips and folded to my shove.

Ohh, one more thing. I heard that a dude sat down at the final table and took the 3rd price. Since noone checks which player plays at which table and that is not against the rules, you can give it a try if you want.
