If he's that much of an idiot, I'd re-raise it to 1000 or so and hope that he calls or (even better) shoves over, then get the rest in on the flop.

As played, I'd have just shoved over on the flop, he's not going to fold and you're way ahead of whatever he has. Plus if he is semi-bluffing the FD I want to make sure he pays to see the turn.
