Default BC poker championship 2009. 1100 dollar buyin event

    Hey guys

I want your guys input on this hand i just finished playing a few hours ago. Im pretty sure i made the right play but i would appricate your input. But can we keep the critizsism to a minimum??

So needless to say, i am close to the bubble. Top 63 are paid and we have 67 players left. 606 people started. Avg stack is roughly 90k and blinds are at 4k and 2k with a 400 ante. We have about 5 minutes left at this level and then its going up to 5k and 2.5k with 500 ante.

The button is a massive chip leader, hes sitting on about 140k to 180k and has been raising with any ace, as he should be since we are close to the bubble and play tightens up here. He also makes the piont of tellin everyone that he isn't folding any ace.

So i have 21k in chips and im in the big blind. After posting im down to 17k. I started off the day at 51k and just kept on takin bad beats after bad beats. Put still kept my head straight and made some massive lay downs. And made some good steals to keep me in the running. Well this hand comes up.

Im dealt pocket tens and we have one person limp in late and the button raises to 9k. I go into the tank and do some math. I have 4k in the blind and 17k behind. If i fold here im down to about 14.6k when im in the small blind. By the time the big blind gets back to me in the next orbit i will be blinded/ante out. Or close to it. I would just have enough for the big blind. Also i took a walk around the room in between hands and it looked like i was the shortest stack in the room, if not one of the shortest.

So i push and i put the button on ace rag. He turns over ace 7. I was right. I figured this was the best time to take a stand.

Would you have played this hand differently or the same? give me your input.

Seems like a insta-shove spot to me. No point on tanking. If you are properly rolled for these tournies, your goal should be to go as deep as possible instead of just making the money. The only reason I could see someone even contemplating this play is if they are not properly rolled/playing scared money and getting ITM is more important than the most +EV play.

Yeah this is a good shove.

    yeah instashove.

Did you play the $550 too? How was the field in the $1100 compared to the $550? I sold both my seats for the $1100 and just played the $550, but I suspect the $1100 would have been extremely soft because of so many satellite seats.

I don't know about the shove. I ve heard Jen Harman talking about foldin aces in a spot like that to make the money. I mean to properly be rolled for that type of tourney u need at least 30k

As for the field, it's hard to say. For the first day alot of donks and wannabes. But there were some good players. Brad booth busted out the first day.

How was the 550? Donkament? The blinds for that should have been 40 minutes. U playin the mainevent? I am.

wtf at folding aa let alone 77 in that spot. Harman is a nit imo. Anyway it's a good shove, me and Alexos are jumping on the plane in a couple hours and will be there tonight for tomorrow's Main Event. We'll be the Montreal donks. Feel free to flag us down and gl tomorrow.

Really ez shove here (folding AA???).

Missed the events but had been hoping to make it down for these. I was at last year's BCPC but didn't play.
For any of you that were at last year's MainEvent, you may have noticed a woman who was playing GavinSmith HeadsUp on a table off to the side (day before final table). That's my 'partner'.... she won (lol). Gavin had invited us to come down and paid for airfare & hotel/penthouse suite for us for a 3-day stay.
We played a SNG after that with Maria Ho, Bryan Devonshire, Dennis Phillips, Brad Booth, Gavin Smith, Tiffany Michelle, Howard Blank (V.P. Great Canadian Casinos). Gavin paid our buyins and I ended up winning the SNG which included another 3-day penthouse suite stay at RiverRock & $1,200!! (weee.... my partner came in 2nd).

^^ just my little claim to fame here, lol. Really wanted to make it down to the BCPC this year but couldn't make it (still haven't used up my 3-day stay).
Interested in hearing more about this year's BCPC for any who made it down for it.

I cant possibly imagine JH folding TT-AA in this spot. A player of that calibre doesn't usually care too much about min cashing. Unless she thought she had like no edge on the tourney she was playing. Her equity goes way up (probably more than the direct ICM) if she is able to double in this spot.

    lol @ folding aces
So, basically no one, save a very small minority, is going to be rolled for those tourneys right?

I'm certain (I know a bunch) that many would enter it as a one shot deal, without taking into consideration BRM (unless they're planning on playing $2.5k buyins once per week or something. There were also satellites running for the MainEvent at difference casinos (last year Pokerstars had a $400 satty for it - no online sattys this year)

I noticed that YanniYankievich placed 7th in the $1k buyin for a decent cash ($22k ?). I didn't recognize anyother online players in the list of top finishers (sure there'd be some... if not 'many').

I did happen to see who the guy was who won the MnEvent. His pic. was on the news & on the newspaper front page as he was arrested for a multi-murder case from a yr. or 2 ago (6 people murdered in the same apt., gang-related). Apparently the R.C.M.P. had the guy who was running the MainEvent (Howard Blank, VP of Great Cdn Casinos) hold back on giving this guy his 1st placeprize of ~$350k. Pretty sick as I'm sure he'd be needing it for lawyer expenses right about now. Howard stated to the press that the 'winner' (aka 'loser') wasn't known to the poker community (I wonder what is sn is on Fulltilt, lol). mbn bein' an unknown and taking that tournament down. But then again... he hasn't seen any of it yet.
Would this be a definition of 'karma'?
