Why do you hide your stats or opt out on these websites? I'm curious as to why some people do this. Anyone else??

If you have a theory, it's probably right, and if not I don't think poker is the game for you.

Perhaps some really shitty players are hoping you won't be able to get a read on just how shitty they actually are. Maybe they think they'll be able to convince you of otherwise.... & maybe they actually will.

I opt out because I'm down on SNGs and I'd rather spend my time learning to be better than wasting energy ignoring people telling me how crap I am.

I always thought regs would do it so that other regs don't have reason to assume they're anything but donks. For me, when I have a limit history vs villian, I generally give higher tier guys more respect. Without a ring of stars, it's typically safe to assume a player is a donk or similar.

Opting out doesn't seem very effective since there are plenty of other sites like pokeroptimizer that will give you the same data. Finding and opting out of all of them is a task in itself. If the person you are playing doesn't go to the full extent to find this info, then it prob doesn't matter to start with.

That's why I do it, lol. Let them think I'm a donk for as long as possible.

I know some people use those sites to keep records for them, but I keep my own records anyways.

I dont see how that can work. My experience is that people constantly call you a donk in SnG's. Doubt it has anything to do with
    anything really.

interesting logic re: keeping other regs thinking you're bad.
1: they're going to notice you are on all their tables anyways, they'll quickly notice if you are good or not.
2: if they're decent and you are playing med+ stakes then they should table select around you if you have a good winrate. you WANT this because you have less edge on other winning regs.. obv.
3: only logical argument I've seen is regarding wanting to keep your winnings private for tax / etc reasons.

1 and 2 really only apply to sngs obviously. stats blocked usually means decent winner or better who took the time to do it or losing player who doesn't wanted to be berated @ tables. you should know which in under 50 hands at smallish stakes.

My logic is all about sample size. Sure they will see me in their games often, but rarely will they see how often/much I cash for. Denying them access to the 100's or 1000's of tournaments played all in one spot keeps them guessing at how good/bad I actually am. Thus they will be more likely to label me a donk or marginal winner if they see me make an odd play.

That does make some sense regarding they can't tell if you're a small or big winner. However, bottom line is if they are halfway decent and you are good or very good you STILL don't want them to sit at your table.
So the only really good situation is someone who's quite good table selects around you even though you are a mediocre winner?
I guess certain game situations could be good if he undervalues your ability based on what he has seen.
I just would rather not have another good winning player sitting at my table if I could avoid it.

Being a marginal or big winner doesn't necessarily point to exactly how you play or what your leaks are either.
