I'm a big fan of shoving the nuts on the river. (Well, the near-nuts.)

Harrington goes through the math in one of his books (might be the cash games book), and basically he comes to the conclusion that checking the river with a monster is overrated, and shoving is +EV.

I like to add the to full timer usage to the shove.

I make the long pause to indicate concern and confusion about why he just called those last 2 streets.

Then they see me making a desperation shove at the last second.

Don't know if it works, but I like to do it.

Bet more on the flop and turn, then your flop shove becomes a 1/2 pot bet or something like that. The other reason to bet more is that bottom two pair is a vulnerable hand (since if the board pairs you're basically toast) so you want to play this pretty fast.

Personally I would almost never check in this spot, why give opp an opportunity to check behind when he might call a bet? I see players do this all the time to me with the nuts (assuming I had Jx in this case) and shake my head at the value they lose.

I agree with taipan to betting more with bottom two pair. More often than not the board will be paired on turn or river and your bottom two pair is busted.

I also agree that checking the river is not optimal, I tried it many times in the past and 95% of the times opponent checked back. I think on the long run we make more money value betting at least.

The only reason to check is if you put his most likely hand as a flush draw and you have a good reason to believe that he will bluff if you check, without those reads I will bet the river
