Should have I chosen a better spot than this? This play is +EV but perhaps I should have pushed on the cut off since there would be more EV due to fold equity? Opinions?

I never really know what to do in this scenarios; in this particular one though I think push was the only move due to being incredibly short stacked, I can't fold and rely on everyone folding the next round. What if I had a M of 5 instead? Or how about 7? Would that still be a mandatory push spot? Are there any articles/books about this concept?

With your stack I'm taking every +EV spot I can take. The shove looks good although I could see folding this with a good read and w/o antes

As fjuanl stated you need to take every +EV line you can. A good book on short stack play is "Kill them All"

    or Kill Everyone
