Lib dems getting to negotiate and hopefully talk some sense into the conservatives is way better than a tory majority government imo, This could have been a lot worse.

I really don't agree with all the talk that the people have spoken and have recognised the need for change by voting conservative. It's complete nonsense, they have failed to build a majority government against Gordon Brown who is clearly not exactly a charismatic leader when the country is just recovering from a recession and the political scandal. That says a lot about the Labour policies. Labour/ Lib dem is the more natural alliance and I hope to see Gordon Brown continue as PM with Vince Cable as chancellor. Still possible imo.

Well Brown hasn't failed yet because Clegg is taking matters into his own hands instead of following the unwritten constitutional rules (which is understandable as he wants political reform). But he may well fail if lib dems reject tories, just fiddled with something on BBC which said even with labour/lib dem/sdlp they're still 8 short. meh, maybe my dream is over and you're right about this being a clusterfuck if lib dem/tory talks fail.

I've heard commentators stating that Brown is allowing the Cons & LibDems to talk first as he sees a few large issues seperating them, ie Europe, defence & Voting system reform, as a bridge too far, and is essentially happy enough for the LibDems to realise that themsleves & then come running back to Labour. I'm sure Clegg would accept pretty much anything right now, but he'll have a hard time convincing his party to move much on those issues. Likewise, the tories aren't going to budge on these issues either, so I don't see how a coalition between these two can work.

I'm hoping Labour & Libdems can work something out, but I still have a feeling Libdems will crumble on some big issues witht he cons just to get a few semi-important cabinet posts.
