I am a solid micro stakes mtt player whos had some success in ($2,$3, and $5) dollar buy-ins. However, I have noticed lately that about 80% of the players I am up against in the first hour or so are shoving a lot more early on in the hand. It seems like they aren't playing the hand to maximize equity. For instance I was in a situation where I made a 2.5Xbb raise from the cutoff with AhKh and was called from the BB. The flop was 8s10h9h. I made a continuation to see where I was at and was instantly reraised all-in and looking at my pot odds it was def worth the call. My opponent had 8c8h and had hit a bottom set. After the a blank on the turn I hit the 3h on river and won the hand. My angry opponent seemed to think I made the most ridiculous call in history and continued to berate me and my play style. I understand micro stakes are micro stakes but should that make a player so prone to shove at the first sign of a decent hand and when they lose they always seem to think that they were robbed? I just think players are missing out on lots of potential chips and instead are putting their tournament life on the line in a situation where they aren't that much favored. I still see players trying to win the tournament in the first hour and I think that has a lot to do with it. Hence, why I usually start guaranteed mtts at around the 45min mark. This gets rid of some of the riff raft and still puts me at an average stack usually. However, does anyone else see what Im seeing regarding these players shoving with moderate hands so early on and either getting eliminated or winning a small amount of blinds. Just a little
