Avoid them or embrace them - multitablers

I've managed to find a time period where the games are soft to say the least. I believe I'm mostly up against recreationals, however I do see multitablers from time to time.

So at first I'd been tryin to avoid them considering that they would probably be decent and why would I want them on my table seen as they would most likely take an ITM spot.

Anyway I end up in a game with one "Reaper" (maybe reaper****). We're on bubble and I shove (into him) for the blinds. Astonishingly he calls with 10 8 clubs, hits an 8 and knocks me out. I query the call, (well actually I call him an fing retard), he replies: "sorry hit the wrong button. lol"

The next time I'm against a multitabler, I'm up against a player called Euphoria. I look him up on sharkscope and his graph is kinda shaky and he's playin 13 tables at once. The blinds get to 100. It's folded to me and I shove into him with 900 - having played maybe one hand previously (he had roughly 1700). He snap calls with K 10 spades. I flop a pair and he hits runner runner for the flush. (maybe I shoulda done a stop n go but ain't hinsight great).

Now both times I thought they'd play ABC, the first was an unfortunate mistake I guess but one only a multitabler would do that too really (surely) and the second was bizzare - no hands played (by me) and he's happy to play 2/3 of his stack with K10s.

Now I know this is not exactly a big sample size but I'm wondering how I should approach having a multitabler on a 9man where the rest are (usually losing) recreationals.

being a multi-tabler myself, I notice when i have a ton of tables going10-16, i rarely am able to make intricate bluffs and often play for stacks when i other wise wouldnt.

However, as my tables get whittled down i really just start abusing people and getting sbetter reads. this begs the question why i dont just play less to begin with.

My advice is to see how many tables your "multi-tabler" is playing, if its less than 5, there really shouldnt be any adjustments imo, if its more than 5-6, then u can attackt hem more because theyll be playing ABC more often than not.

I dont see why youre so worried about them, just play your game and have an understanding theyre going to be better on average everything else equal and adjust your ranges/reads accordingly

Well most of them are decent and you should avoid them if you can. At big sites it's hard to do, though. And there are some who are not so decent all.

1. Never criticize someone's bad play.
2. His call may have been justified by pot odds.

KTs is often good enough if you think opponent is shoving ATC or close to it. The fact that you had been playing tight in that particular tourney doesn't mean much against a multitabler whose decisions are based on the stats he has about you over many tourneys.

Don't worry about it. Multitabler's misclicks cost him more (for your benefit) than his one-in-a-million calls can cost you.

They usually don't vary their game enough. They also suck at adapting. So what you need to do is figure out their pattern and then exploit it. This applies mostly to early levels as their push-fold game can be close to unexploitable.

In your example KTs seems like a snap-call against a LAGG or a reg who knows what he is doing. You don't give the stack setup so it's hard to say with absolute certainty. I might let this one go if it's on the bubble or the stacks are set up in an odd way. I will also usually let this go against opponents who I think are pushing less than about 80% of the time.

Avoid the chat box as well. Don't even type a sarky 'nh' in the chatbox. You want players to feel good when they win after bad plays. It reinforces the bad play, which is where you make your money.

Some points
Re the K10 call - he had not played me before, I'm running tracker and this was the first time I'd come up against him. The table was at least 6 handed. The stats he would've had on me would've been VP less than 10 and PR 0 (I had not opened a pot).

Re the 10 8 call - he was not gettin pot odds we were very similarly stacked.

I'm not scared of playin multitablers. I have found a time period where the games are soft and multitablers are a rare sight, so my query was whether I should avoid them seen as it is easy to do so at this time period. And I have the luxury of not having to be totally efficient.

I have been playin poker for some 5 years or so live, (a poker league, casinos and home games) but until Oct last year had no computer (due to a burglary). I only deposited on FT at the end of April, having used UB for a period to establish the softest time to play.

I then did a month at $2 to get a feel for FT (and to ensure low variance) and then moved to $5

My plan is to play in other time periods too and in these time periods I know I will be up against a full mix of people - regs, multitablers and so on.

I am slowly building my stamina and at the mo put in about 4 hours per day. ONE table at a time. The next step is to add a second 4 hour period (which would be in peak time). I will approach this entirely differently, aiming to be as efficient as possible.

Eventually I will add a third period where I know I will be up against grinders.

However at the mo I really don't see the point in making the game any harder than it needs to be - esp as I have the luxury of playing when I want.

SO I bet the question will be y am I not multitabling? Well I will but I have a plan and that will happen further down the line. I am confident that I could run two games at once, tbh I don't really care to just yet. I prefer to be able to concentrate fully on one game and to crush that game - I'm watching betting patterns and so on. It's also relaxing. My friend plays either 3 or 4 at once when we sit together. I'm not at that stage yet where I am happy to split my concentration or to be havin to compute quite so rapidly.

But like you say - there really isn't anyone to be scared of at $5. I've created a bankroll of profit (which allows me to play $5s) from my play to date (over the last 60 days). If you add that to my deposit I could be playin 10s or even 20s - but there's no rush to do so.

PS I agree re chat panel - I was a bit pissed off cos I was one game away from superhot. Chat is a tool to be used for your advantage, I'm gonna post about that soon

Generally, when I see multitablers, I assume they are playing ABC poker and never running elaborate bluffs. Whether I'm right or wrong, it doesn't change my play. When the Ms get low and I see the multitablers running a standard shove/fold game, I'll look them up on sharkscope. Anyone with a nice +ROI is assumed to know ICM fairly well, and I'll shove into them quite a bit lighter (esp. on the bubble) than normal since I assume they know what they need to call. I kinda like having a good player on my left during bubble play.

EDIT: in this case, villain would probably have been correct to call one of my shoves with KT, given my range in this spot. But I fall in the <80% shoves that Nakamura mentions, so his reasoning for folding is exactly what I want in this spot.

KTs is a + EV hand. On bubble, I dont call with it, but 800 more to move into money and if I lose, I still have 9 BB is not a terrible move.
