Default Go and go with 77

Opponent is active the last hands, my read is that he raises with questionable hands. A couple of hands before he 3x and I shoved (stacks about the same). Here I want to get some more value and I decide to call, with the intention to shove most flops. This flop seems ideal to me, so I shove and he insta calls, so the plan worked. Nevermind the outcome, was the plan good?

this is a stop and go. A go and go would be to 3 bet then shove the flop. Given the difficulty you're going to have vs a wide range on most flops, that or an open shove is going to be better. save your flats for hands that flop better.

I would usually expect that he'll fold most hands worse than 77 to this play but he'll c bet with many of those hands and then you make more. If you're going to do this you might as well have something like AT because that way if you are beat you'll have 3-6 outs rather than 2.

If he happens to have 22-66 or a 6x or a straight draw hand the money is probably going to go in on the flop either way.

So the only way this is better is if you expect him to check back a lot with overs which is probably not the case.

another option would be a small lead to try and tempt him to jam his overs or peel with them.

Stop-n-go would be decent if you had 0 fold equity preflop (sometimes when you shove flops he'll fold which is a good result). With 20BB you definitely have some fold equity and he's making it even cooler by 3x'ing pre. Shove and grab that dead money

stacksize wise the go'n'go works perfect here. a 3 bet to 8k makes sense given his 3x raise pre.

Yes it was a mistake. He was raising w 82o!!! and "of course" he called top pair, so what you are saying makes perfect sense. If I shoved or 3-bet he would fold. One more mistake on the logbook...
