Default 3 betting short stack 2nl

K so main villain is 42/17 over 12. Is this a spot i should be 3 betting or just calling? I feel like his calling range is still probably way behind me, but does his stack size make this just a call instead?

On the flop should i be checking to let him bluff at me or is that too risky? thanks

The first thing you should do is read this: How to convert hands

Then read all of this: Beginner's Guidelines

As for you hand, this is what it should look like:

    Poker Stars $0.01/$0.02 No Limit Hold'em - 6 players
The Official 2+2 Hand Converter Powered By DeucesCracked.com

    BTN: $2.59
    SB: $0.72
    Hero (BB): $2.09
    UTG: $2.18
    MP: $5.00
    CO: $1.25

Pre Flop: ($0.03) Hero is BB with J J
1 fold, MP calls $0.02, 2 folds, SB raises to $0.12, Hero raises to $0.40, 1 fold, SB calls $0.28

    Flop: ($0.82) 9 3 9 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $0.42, SB folds

No, checking would just give him a chance to make his draw.

Before advising OP to read how to convert hands , observe your opponents and develop reads. Crucial pieces of information are :-
    1. that he has less than 10 posts so he is unable to use the hand converter.
    2. SN in the hand history is donkafelts , which i reckon is a FTR reg , so why the change in name.
    3. If he is an FTR Reg , no need to send him to all the beginners guideline.
    4. saying this is how it should be done and then using a 2+2 format at FTR instead of FTR's format is a bit of a social faux pas.

As for the hand in question, I'd probably go on a read of how i'd observed him play . If he's a station pre and then plays fit and fold , since he's so short I'd probably just shove pre. He'll be calling with all his Ax Kx , smaller PPs etc.
If he's stealing lots or 4betting a lot I'd 3bet smaller giving him the chance to shove over pre. By 3betting half his stack its a no brainer that you are going to be calling any raise or getting the money in on the flop anyway.

We're ahead of his range pre so I'm looking to get the money in .

I am not an FTR reg. I just started playing poker. If i was an ftr reg why would i be playing 2nl? My name may or may not be second hand. (why would i lie?)

    and thanks for comments

I can't use it either so I go elsewhere and make do with what I can.

Well spotted! And a very pertinent question.

    3. If he is an FTR Reg , no need to send him to all the beginners guideline.
True, but it is never too late to learn and if he is a reg then apparently he missed these.

See #1. At least it is readable.

This is 2NL and pretty much anything goes. But we agree not to check.

Against a random microstakes shortstacker I'd just push preflop. I would expect to be called by a pretty wide range, most of which you are ahead of.

Car or truck protection is not at all tremendously fascinating. Conditional upon that typically country yourr home is inside, it may end up an important more compact or more robust section of your capacity to pay compared with your neighbors over condition outlines. OP, I think you played it fine. Another option, not necessarily better, is to check back the flop since there aren't alot of worse hands that can call a bet on that flop, just pocket pairs, and alot of people like to bluff-raise paired flops. Of course the downside to that is an overcard could come on the turn. But you played it fine. With a flop that dry, you probably weren't going to win alot anyway.

    edit:
of course villain made a big mistake putting half their stack in just to look at a flop and fold.

Shove flop, take no shit from the shorties, their stacking off range is always a pretty large proportion of their opening range, as they have very small implied odds due to stack size, so if you have a big pp or AK, just shove it, they willl call with worse.
